How is this series anyways? I'm tempted to read/watch it just for the gay shotas, but I've kind of heard some bad things about it.

It's pretty mediocre, but I still enjoyed it. It pulls out all the stops on the cliche train, but it's still enjoyable. Smugdere is the best character in the show, though. I haven't read the manga, so I can't really say how it stands in comparison to the anime.

The thing between Mika and Yuu is solely platonic. They lived in the same orphanage, so they're closer to brothers separated for a long period of time than lovers. Smugdere likes Yuu, but Yuu is the average dense MC and only cares about killing some vampires (which is obviously the best thing to care about). Some redheaded bitch also likes him, so it's a mini-harem.
