You know, that's usually because characters behave differently because of how varied they are, and people have different tastes about what constitutes a likeable character, and sometimes a character goes so against those tastes that they feel a strong dislike towards them.
So for example when Perrine was depicted mostly as an irritated bitchy tsundere in the first season, some people didn't like that. Later in S2, movie, and OVA they showed her in a way more favorable manner making her much more likeable overall and making her one of the few witches who actually underwent character development.

I mean I get that, but I also don't. I liked Perrine from the start, as I like all witches. I just favor some witches more over others, but there's never a witch I don't like. They're all likeable to me for they are witches, with different personalities and traits to them. You need 'bitchy tsunderes' for casts among other types for it to be more interesting than just say, have 10 seemingly perfect characters.

I guess people (at least me) are overly sensitive towards tsunderes, that archetype has ruined too many harem shows.
SW has the benefit that one chararacter in eleven doesn't have such an impact, and there is no harem-like competition.
Well, I like Perrine now, and apart from her I never really disliked any other witch.
