Maybe Kaiba didn't want him to have that much access. It's also possible Pegasus wanted full control of KC so that he could improve its technologies and create an even better way to "resurrect" his wife. The duel boxes were already on DK, and I'm sure Pegasus could have had one installed near his castle yet we never see him fiddling with it for that purpose. He was probably waiting for an opening to take over KC and Yugi beating Kaiba in Death-T was his best chance.

The whole point of the tournament was to beat Yugi. Whether he did it or his Player Killers did was moot. If he could do what Kaiba could not he'd fulfill his terms with those Big Five guys. He only sent Kaiba to duel Yugi after Kaiba broke in and got involved and held Mokuba's soul hostage

I literally don't get the point of the grand tournament arc in the anime, I know its filler , but zigfried whole reason for revenge sounds really stretched out, and then Kaiba beats his ass before the semi final match?
