I mean, yeah. Arc-V is an improvement from the basic YGO formula. It's the first series to accurately portray war and actually manage to make deaths feel irreversible up until Fusion. Its portrayal of classism during Synchro was also decent, albeit inferior to 5D's'.
Basically, the show makes great use of most of its themes, and that's a quality you can't take away from it. GX failed at being multiple anime series at once. Arc-V succeeded.

It's not a meme. While we constantly whine and complain about Arc-V the criticisms that we give to the show are legitimate. It's a very flawed show and far from being what it once was: a good show. That being said it's not as bad as stuff like nico ratings would have you believe that get posted here a lot.

Reddit from what I've seen lately is split. There's some people who like it and some who think it's bad which has changed from the start where everyone thought it was good.

NAC hates it about as much as we do but they're not as vulgar about it, but they still complain all the time. Even the owner of the site doesn't like Arc-V that much.

I guess other smaller communities like MAL or YT think it's good but once you see their comments on clips or full episodes you'll see it doesn't take much to impress them.

The first FMA was vastly superior in terms of direction. Brotherhood's only appeal was the action scenes. It was a typical, soulless high-budget production. The character designs looked flat and boring and were straight-up taken from the manga and animated while FMA had more logical color choices.

Except that it doesn't. Outside of the brief Standard Dimension invasion, the show has hardly felt like a war. The motives for the Lancers to go and fight this foreign enemy are incredibly shallow and the motives for Academia are nil. They're just generic bad guys following orders because the plot demands it. There's hardly a clash of ideals between the both of them, and encounters almost always end in EGAO to make all the Academia soldiers turn good. It's childish and completely unrealistic. Leo and Reiji are both poor excuses for leaders. We still don't even know how he convinced a whole dimension to go to war, and we don't know why citizens of Academia believe war is justified. There is none of the psychological trauma associated with being in a war either. There is no accurate depiction of true helplessness, lost innocence, and most of the personal sacrifices made are heavily downplayed and lose significance because of poor character portrayal.

The poverty and classism stuff is pretty dumb too because it's all forced down your throat. In 5Ds the setting itself made all the discrimination between Satellite and Neo-Domino believable and natural and Yusei was our tour guide in exploring these differences through his eyes while Jack showed us the flipside of that coin. Here Yuya just comes barging in thinking he understands everyone and can make them all cease decades of conflict through EGAO which is absolutely unrealistic and outright childish. We barely get to see the contrasting perspective of commons and tops and instead we're forced to believe they hate each other until they're friends at the end. The poverty stuff goes hand in hand with that. You think you can just show me a 30 sec scene of some kid scrounging for food in a decimated city and call it poverty? Show me the trauma they have faced in their past, their idealism, and their struggle to overcome their personal situation.

Hey. Assault Mode archetype is not really bad. The biggest letdown is summon them. But their effects are actually really nice. Stardust Assault Mode is basically a Judgment by tributing.
The only thing is that people should stop trying to put ALL the AM in the same deck. Also she goes better with Arcanite.

Read the manga instead. The only good part of DM is Battle City, but DK isn't adapted well, there are a ton of fillers (40% of DM is filler and there are 224 episodes), and MW had barely any budget and OC that makes no sense.

As for Arc-V, it's good in the first arc but gets worse over time. The worst part is the first arc isn't self-contained so because the show gets worse, it hurts the value of the first arc because you know how shitty the show gets and how shitty the characters get too.

Legacy characters really don't work well unless the show takes place in an already established timeline. It works well in Vanguard because the new show takes place in the same setting as the original show so the characters don't feel out of place. Same with GX and how it brought back some DM characters, GX was made to be a DM sequel so it took place in the same setting as DM. It doesn't really work as well in Arc-V and feels really forced/out of place.

Well from what I've seen all the series are boring in their own ways, but they all have their strengths.

DM (what I assume means "original series) is the "fuck the rules" duels in the battle kingdom, then proper-ish duels in battle city, then the apparently filler Noah arc (was he a reference to season 0?), then back to battle city, then some other shit I suppose, then capsule monsters, and then Yugi vs Atem which I remember was the coolest thing ever when I was a kid, of course I don't remember shit of it.

GX was in school and it was really dumb and felt a lot more geared towards kids, then there was that light dude and the part where they sent a card to space (fukkin kek) and I remember a rainbow gem dragon thing? I don't think I ever watched the full thing.

5Ds was the edgier one where it goes back to being somewhat serious with the earthbound immortals but it also had duels on bikes which is dumb and it introduced Synchro summons and Xyz summons. Don't remember watching much of it.

Zexal looks stupid and I've never watched it, does it add anything new to the formula?

And Arc-V has action duels which don't seem all too interesting and it has pendulum summons.

Is it just me or do people who like Arc-V tend to like 5D's while people who like Zexal tend to like GX?

I disagree for GX. Season 3 was good, but season 4 felt rushed, apparently because they were trying to end the show quickly. The ending itself was amazing because of Judai vs Yugi, but season 4 was a load of wasted potential. It could have been great if it had proper pacing.
