It depends if you like super robot shows you will love G-gundam which is a really fun show to watch.
There is also build fighter which is also a fun show, but it is a loveletter to the franchise itself so you will probably find more enjoyment out of it when you are familiar with the franchise, but despite that I still enjoyed it very much eventhough I was only a little familiar with the franchise.

Honestly, some show's like ZZ suffer from "Tomino-ness", but there are a few solid entries in UC:
The side stories like:08th ms team, War in pocket and Stardust memories are nice (Especially 08th ms team aka Mobile suit gundam Vietnam war)
Char's Counter Attack is a good finale for the Amuro/Char rivalry.
Unicorn is also not that bad and Turn A is among the best gundam shows.

You might want to try out these before quiting the series entierly. And yes, the non UC shows are all either gay/bishonen crap (where angsty teens fight against evil adults) or super robot tournament shows.
