I don't really miss a whole lot about 20 years ago, objectively speaking.

I do kinda miss the wild west era of the internet, though. Back before 4chan existed and you had to install individual codecs onto your computer to play your shitty media player.

There used to be a sense of wonder and excitement for things to come in general. Stuff like videogames experienced exponential graphical boosts, computers were getting more and more accessible (No more master/slave drive?!), anime was on the rise and you'd see more and more cool shit, the government had no idea how to deal with the internet.

Now the government clamps down on the internet with an iron fist, I'd have to actually pay attention to guage if a game was released 5 years ago or two days ago, and anime is plentiful releasing an endless stream of new shows (at the cost of less 50+ episode series).

I wouldn't go back, though. I rely on my smartphone, and love my 100mbps internet, and 4k monitor way too much.

Few days ago I discussed who is the best girl from Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikakku with some random anon in the general for Nostalrius (WoW private server). I got banned for 3 days, but at the same time 10+ different people in the very same thread ERP'd with each other by describing how are they going to suck each other off and who will get to play the girl role and dress up in a skirt. They kept doing that for hours after I got banned, so I assume they got a warning, at best.
