Can anyone explain why exactly there are 6 "volumes" of it? Is each disc only 2 episodes? Do they expect us to pay $60+ for 2 episodes of this anime, and then repeat 6 times?

Anime studios don't compress video quality for physical releases, so each disc only contains about two episodes. The blu-ray usually also contains some sort of special extras (a booklet, bonus shorts, etc) and quite often, sloppy animation that was rushed out for the broadcast release will be cleaned up and re-drawn.

Is it dumb? Yes. But it's just become an accepted practice in Japan. Anime is a stupidly expensive hobby over there.

This is what triggered me so badly about /a/'s reaction to the final episode. It was beautiful.

Sure rushed and came a left-field from the ending most were expected, but in terms of baldfat's relationship I couldn't think how it could have been expressed better. For whatever reason the Nips understood this but the tumblrtards/delusional fujos here didn't.

People expecting a Doukyuusei kiss need to BTFO, because it will NEVER happen in YOI. I'll be honestly surprised if we get an onscreen kiss at all, and honestly I'm okay with that given how well they've handled expressing BaldFat's relationship and intimacy without face mashing.
