The people in Morioh coming together to protect their community is a recurring theme in the part. It's why all the redeemable minor villains turn face and why a random Morioh citizen kills Kira.

I liked how Kira being dragged off to purgatory (DMQ) mirrored how his victims got sent off to Heaven after he blew them up.

They could do a lot by just giving Giorno more faces than the generic "stern" and "stand-fight sweat". He's really expressive before joining Passione, which made him a lot easier to like. The arc where he has to keep the lighter burning is a perfect example of the doofy faces that kid used to make.

Felt like Araki realized how fun it was to draw the iconic face-licking panel and vowed to stick that exact same look on Giorno every opportunity he had.

Weather Report was way too fucking crazy to be the main protagonist's stand. Every single time Weather Report showed up things went nuts, and that'd get pretty tiring after a while. Especially given how many fights Jolyne has and how stupid Araki got with what changing the weather could do.

Imagine how ridiculous Araki would've gotten with Weather Report given that he went straight for "snail apocalypse" in Weather Report's 4th big fight. By the end of Stone Ocean Jolyne would've been making it cold outside to attract polar bears to Florida or something.

Had he stayed careful like he did before his disguise, he would have been nearly impossible to get the upper hand on. He shifted from a very careful killer to someone who was confident no one could stop him. Once he stopped being careful, he made mistakes.

Great. Killer Queen can touch you and turn you into a bomb, turn anything you touch into a bomb, and that's not even counting SHA. BtD is an instawin button with a fuckload of preparation so it's not counted here, otherwise KQ would be the strongest stand next to MiH and GER.

Whitesnake can do a lot of stuff, but it's weaker combat-wise. It's definitely more useful though, and if I had a choice between the two I'd pick Whitesnake every time. Even though I prefer Killer Queen as a stand.

Honestly I would prefer that the main characters get kinda shitty stands. Crazy Diamond for example has an amazing ability, but most of what Josuke does with it is "I'll use it to get him close to me and then I'll punch him." Part 3 is especially heinous in this regard.

I'd have preferred if Crazy D didn't have much power and he had to think his way through situations more, maybe give it more utility to compensate.

I'm not saying Josuke didn't use it creatively, but his end goal was still "punch the villain really hard." His win condition is always just getting people in close enough to punch. Enigma for example is a neat idea because it requires the user to fight in a way that isn't just physical confrontation, using preparation as an advantage.

I still like how Crazy Diamond is used, I just think that limiting it more would have pushed Araki to come up with more creative ideas than Josuke reflecting people's attacks to catch them off guard a lot of the time.

Giorno's power was so vague that his new applications felt more like "Oh, I guess he can do that too" instead of Giorno being particularly clever. I think Araki giving Gold Experience some characteristics that later get retconned or dropped plays into this. For example, he punches too much life into a tree which accelerates its aging and kills it. Another one would be turning Mista's bullets into vines that are much, much larger in mass than the original bullets.

I did like Giorno thinking of turning objects into human organs though. That one felt totally natural.

I sort of have the same problem with Soft & Wet so far, too.

I like how meta and experimental Part 4 was in that regard. Sometimes to its detriment (it feeling like two completely different seasons or chapters with how tenuously connected Kira was with the calamities at the start), but most often to its benefit like how its plot wasn't as clear cut as the other parts (or those of most shounen manga at the time) and the inclusion of Rohan (a manga character who makes manga might have resulted in a cheap gimmicky cast member, but he wound up being a delight in his own way distinct from the gag)

Normally, villainous monologues are just a standard story facet, but in a tale where time and secrecy are at a premium, the oddity of Kira's talking to himself is rendered believably strange and its consequences are dramatic rather than comedic (as they would be in a mere parody).

Yoshihiro was an evil dude since he was just that loyal to his son's orders and just wanted him to be happy and Kira was supposed to have a abusive mother and have Yoshihiro not do anything about it which made him guilty that he couldn't do anything and so when he died he still followed Kira to make up for him but this idea was scrapped by Araki because he didn't want people to feel more symphatetic towards Kira iirc.

He was a good dad to say the least.
