Not that anon, but Araki himself implyied he just made it dark because his editor thought DiU was too happy. It is the most formulistic out of all parts, the most shounen-esque IMHO. That's about the parte as a whole, doesn't change the fact there were some elements that shined con their own merits, like Bruno's and Abbachio's backstory, Bruno as a character, the final arc, etc.
