I'm feeling better about it too. I was really mad at first and I still don't really have any faith in s2 being competently written, but I'm too in love with the characters to stay buttblasted for long. Even if I hate what they did with the character development, I can concede that it wasn't totally out of left field and there is some sort of tenuous explanation for most of it. Lots of the episode was adorable and enjoyable, so I got good feels out of it too.

Don't be fooled by the fujo-hype, the anime is pretty heavy on ice-skating.

About 80% of screen time of all the competition episodes (5-9, 11/12) is skating, the rest is heavy on the jargon and training.

The rest of the time is dedicated to heavy handed, but relevant faggotry relating ai(su). As a non-fujo I felt it didn't really take away from the sports aspect.

He didn't leave because he was bored and no one challenged him. He left because he didn't surprise anyone anymore and that was his motivation for skating pretty much. Having to reinvent himself made himself made him isolate himself at least emotionally and put an untold amount of pressure on Victor. Plus, he wasn't all that mad when Fairy took his SP record.

It's really obvious he's going back because Yuuri wanted it and he has a new goal to skate for Yuuri. The line that he was pissed that both his records were taken felt like he was hinting to Yuuri that he was going to return than his actual feelings. He still encouraging that Yuuri get some guld and he will coach him to get one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. The scene of him asking to come back is too miserable on his part and obviously coming as a response to being dumped. It's just frustrating because it feels like Yuuri is completely misunderstanding Victor and Victor refuses to clarify. I wonder if S2 will address this.

Victor could have asked Yakov that any time but he chose to do it right before fairy skated. I think he did that to get fairy fired up to win gold. If Yuuri had won gold he would have most likely retired, but Victor knew if he won silver or bronze there was a chance he would continue because Yuuri hates losing. So basically, Victor's hug to fairy was a "I'm counting on you to keep Yuuri in check". It worked, too, since fairy was more psyched-up than ever when he found out Yuuri planned to quit.

He was musing on the thought, it wasn't something he did on a whim just to please Yuuri. Also, even if CR killed the translation I'm sure you understood, Yuuri reminded Victor this episode what he asked of him in episode 4 - he just wants Victor to be himself around him. Victor wouldn't do something like this just to please Yuuri, if he's coming back it's because he wants it, too.
