Fucking amazing animation. Does Cagliostro have a dub? I honestly prefer the English voices for Lupin since it's not exactly 'Japanese' characters and the VAs are great in them for the most part.

if you want cagliostro, go buy the blue ray off rightstuf. has the japanese and all the dubs. it also comes with a shit ton of features including a commentary. its worth owning so dont be a fag. can get it for 20 bucks or so depending on where you go. also go for the 2000 manga dub. it has solid snake as lupin and an overall better cast and script compared to the 995 shitty streamline dub.

its a miyazaki movie. of course their are dubs. I know of 2. stay away from the streamline version, watch the 2000 manga dub version. also i get where you coming from with lupin not being japanese but the original VA Yasuo Yamada is god imo, but I will say the 2000 manga dub is close to reaching that god tier as the original japanese.

get it on blu ray. the art and music alone is mind blowing.

what are the main reasons you think the streamline dub should be stayed away from?
I watched it with both dubs and preferred streamline over manga in both voice acting and little script things, but I'm pretty casual lupin so if there are some real reasons why please lemme know

the fact you cant tell the difference doesnt mean you dont know much about lupin, it means you dont know good voice acting period. the streamline dub isnt faithful to the script. they add a lot of comedic moments that ruins the flow of the film even during the parts where it should be serious. it suffers from the same problem as most 90's dubs. the acting is insanely bad and you can tell they are reading off of a piece of paper and it doesnt come out naturally. also outside of Lupin who was played by Bob Bergan, the cast was vanilla as fuck. they all sounded like generic people where as the manga dub, the characters sounded like they had personality and the voices that were chosen fit the characters. plus they were pro voice actors at the time unlike most of the streamline cast. I dont why i have to explain common sense to you, but if you learn from this, i guess thats what matters. go back and rewatch the 2 dubs again and you should easily tell one is bad and the other is good.


also they dont even call Lupin by his name in the streamline dub. they call him wolf. fuck that.

I've been going though and trying to watch everything between my other shows, and I'm halfway through the second Jacket plus seen 4 or 5 of the feature length releases, and the dubs I've encountered are terribly off for the characters I've come to know.

Of course, I didn't have a TV back when a lot of you were, i imagine, watching the dubs growing up and having them as your intro to the characters as opposed to my more chronological approach now, but the english VAs for even some of the dubs that /a/ prefers just don't seem to capture the spirit very well at all to me.

Lupin always seems more deadpan even in the 'good' dubs, Zenigata always lacks the comical spin his wavering, gravely voice brings. I guess i can understand if you want to hear the voices you're used to, but to me it seems like a pretty meaningful part of the show is just missing in the dubs.

Not that I don't use this argument on literally any anime dub i've seen, but seriously why bother? when you dub, you're altering the source material, as opposed to subs, which only annotate it

I like the old timey detective kind of voice for Zenigata. it manages to be very comical but not to the point where you think he's a bitch. I am bias though because i grew up with most of the dubs. (not that I dont love the original japanese though).

because most people dont think that way when they grow up watching it on their tv with the language they speak. Sometimes dubs devalue whatever charms the original had but thats only IF you are accustomed to the original first.

im all for saying the original is best but i wont deny some dubs are really fun and add a certain greatness to it especially for people who dont want to read a moving manga. the only "bad" Lupin dubs ive come across are the old ones from the 90's and most of the funimation dubs which arent evenall that bad anyway. the only legit horrible lupin dub is fuma conspiracy which sucks since the sub version isnt very good either.

except it doesnt look anything like the manga at all. just because they used cross hatching for shadowing and looked manga esque doesnt mean it even remotely resembles monkey punches drawings. his drawings were very cartoony and exaggerated. everyone had huge hands and feet and it was incredibly over the top. the pink jacket series looked much more like monkey punches designs than the fujiko series did. im assuming you never read the manga.

I just realized something...the artwork and some parts of the trailer has Lupin without his jacket but is wearing a red tie, but we get a glimpse of his black jacket in the trailer and he's wearing a yellow tie with it. just seems weird to see Lupin change and wear different things in one movie.. hope he sticks with the yellow tie longer since it is best tie. maybe blue jacket makes a cameo since he wore the red tie with that in gravestone.
