Why is it that most anime shows rely strictly on dialogue driven humor?

Where did all the visual gags go? It seems nowadays that the only studios that gives a damn about visual based comedy is Studio fucking Deen and Bones. One character making a goofy looking face while telling a joke hardly counts as a visual based gag because all it does is supplement what is actually driving the joke: the dialogue.

I'm not saying dialogue based humor is bad but jesus christ almost every show nowadays does it. It's almost as bad as western cartoons where nearly fucking everything is done by the script.

Because they grew out of radio, whilst Hollywood grew out of theatre.

You need money to animate the visual humor so that it looks good.

I'm talking about some actual visual humor. Konosuba, Sakamoto-kun, and Zombie desu-ka, all shows that were done by Studio Deen contains a handful of visual based comedy which lends itself to being unique compared to other shows.

Nichijou from Kyoanus is almost nothing but visual driven humor but the context behind it is more chaotic and random which makes it distasteful to some viewers.

and Mob Psycho 100 by Bones has little bits of visual gags here and there to help drive the show's quirkiness.

Most other shows just does by-the-script jokes, where if you could understand japanese you could almost just watch the whole episode by ear alone without having to rely on the animation. It's just sad when that's the case because it's fucking animation, if you're not going to have the animation tell a part of the story or humor then why the fuck are you making animation in the first place?

It's also sad that among all the studios that are currently running in Japan, Deen is the one that actually seems to still give a shit about the storyboard more than the script.
>>
The primary reason is because Manzai is the go-to comedy style for Japan, which is understandable because it works.
Perfect examples being Gintama and Ixion Saga DT.

Arakawa Under the Bridge and Konosuba are exemplary in funny visuals.
Nichijou is exemplary in unfunny visuals.

Nichibros, SZS, and Cromartie High are exemplary in funny dialogue.
Joshiraku is exemplary in unfunny dialogue (that relies too heavily on wordplay and knowledge of geographical locations).

There are hits and misses for everything, but doing animated comedy is so incredibly difficult when a majority of the country only responds to verbal comedy.

Japan is not the only place that has fallen into the verbal comedy rut

the western cartoons does this as well. Just look at any cartoon running on TV and you'll see that they base almost everything from the script and not the storyboard.

There was once a time when the script came from the storyboard, where the storyboard was made first and then the script came from it. Nowadays shows rely one people to write a script first and then create a storyboard that just does nothing but create a shot-per-shot plot for the script to go through.

It's pathetic and sad.

He says while posting a pic of an LN adaptation.

The fuck are you on about, you dumb little shit?
>>
>>151115491
What does the fact that something is an LN adaptation have anything to do with visual humor in anime?
>>
>>151115532
That the studio didn't write the script.
>>
>>151115633
It doesn't change that the anime has visual humor.

are you sure you're on the same page as the thread is?
>>
>>151115700
Sure. Anon is just pointing out that you have no point holding up Deen as the savior of anime when they are only adapting what they are contracted to adapt.
>>
>>151115532
It's a written medium, the humor is inherently dialogue focused. OP is full of shit if he thinks Konosuba is an exception.
>>
>>151115755
I'm not OP or the guy he was replying to. I was just joining the discussion.
>>
>>151115768
OP didn't even remotely imply that Konosuba had nothing but visual gags, he just said that Konosuba had them

Episode 1 had a whole couple minutes that was just visual humor. So I don't have no clue what you're trying to argue
>>
>>151115768
>it's a written medium so it's impossible now to insert visual humor into its animated adaptation

Is that what you're trying to say?
>>
Show don't tell is something the japanese culture simply can't wrap their head around it
>>
>>151115866
>>151115903
The point is OP doesn't know what he's complaining about if he's picking Konosuba as a standard, especially when he could've gone with Sakamoto instead. And if he really believes only DEEN and Bones give a damn he clearly didn't watch shows like Pandora, Sansha Sanyou or Flip Flappers.
>>
>>151111868
You can't slap and yell at visual comedy. How will japs ever understand it?
>>
>>151111868
>Where did all the visual gags go?
You just have to look between your legs
