The 3Gatsu manga handles diversity in emotional tones well, a lot better than the anime. You have these short vignettes of either melancholy, bittersweet sadness, or innocent naivete that's drawn in the classic Chica style as well as the emotion of the adults tenderly all in a single volume.

But, it works because Chica's style is stylized and you end up lingering on a page or a shot just soaking up the emotion. And that just works. It's a great buffer. Then you turn the page, and there's some in between chapter illustrations of momo and some misc cute drawing and artwork. it's a different part of the story and a new tone comes, but you don't feel the jarring shift in tone like in the anime.

Go read the manga. Also, SHAFT is the best choice for a dialogue/MC monologue intensive show that needs creative art direction. it's that 3Gatsu is a reflective slower show that manages its tonal shifts in manga form, but that all gets fucked when you're trying to fit it in a 12 ep show.

imo best case for 3-gatsu is a mushishi paced show with 25 ep. Each ep can be tonally consistent and independent, and different tones week to week.
