When the game first came out, they kinda needed to give people a reason to roll the gacha. According to their fate episodes, I think they should have shoved themselves aboard the Gran Cypher. Vira wanted to stalk Katalina, Ferry wanted to see the world, since her state of being doesn't seem to be caused by Celeste, and Noah wants to be with Rackam and his flagship.

The game has around 12mil+ players. It's pretty popular in Japan. There's an english option in the game but it has no official english release on app stores. You'll have to get the apk for it. Lots of big name VAs are involved in the game as well. It's been out for a couple of years now since 2014.
It had its precursor Rage of Bahamut to help boost its popularity with several characters from that game appearing in Granblue as either playable characters or summons.
