You can't wear black/dark undies under light colored and or thin clothes because they will be very visible through it by contrasting with your skin. Same for wearing pure white under white clothing unless you are pale as snow. This is why "nude" ranges exist. If you're only ever wearing jeans, sweatpants, or thicker skirts this isn't a problem. Wear whatever you want especially in reds or browns that won't get as obvious period stains for longer. Leggings, white pants that hug curves, and generally anything with thin fabric any color not your own skin color will be visible through.

And when you want it to be seen by someone special (or anyone, I don't judge) matching sets are a thing. At least go matching colors. It means you're showing effort and didn't just throw on whatever you could grab like a slob.

And that's before needing to chose what style to wear if you want to avoid VPLs.
