I read the manga before it, it was a perfect slice of life manga.

So the anime came and I got to see it in animation and that was awesome.

So what did I like?

I personally visited Japanes villages so it was nice to see life there and how people used food.

I also enjoyed the arc with Inukai because of the perfect reactions.

This picture here was probably the funniest moment of 2016 in anime to me. It was so well done I don't know why but I laughed for a long time.

I also enjoyed the spin on magic where it's not something uber OP but rather something that can improve your life by a bit. Well I guess teleportation magic is OP but it's magic displayed rather in a friendly family setting.

I don't know I enjoy the story, comedy and general lack of forced drama.

I enjoyed the simple pastoral lifestyle. Even though it was set in Japan, it reminded me of my own family and roots in a community where people were agriculture is a big thing and people were always doing shit like planting vegetable gardens and making pickles.
Seeing a normal family do normal things creates a sense of nostalgia for me and yearning for the simplicity of small-town life I left behind when I went off to college.

It's honestly very boring, some people might confuse it with "comfy" though

There's a lot of things, like the subtle lewd being something the viewer gets to imagine themselves instead of just thrust into our face, or how magic was never something incredibly overarching or menacing, it was just casually there.
The character interactions are what really sell the show though, Chinatsu being the main attraction. Her being curious, playful or cowardly to new things is always a joy to watch.

It's a relaxing SoL in a relaxing setting. All the magical elements are subtle and only given enough importance to add a little bit of wonder. There's no message, no plot, no symbolism, it's just chill. It's the kind of thing I love to watch while cuddling a pillow and drinking something warm.

I can totally see it being boring if that's not your thing, though.

There was some good lore hidden behind the non-existent story that I'd wish they would get into detail with, but it would probably kill the slice of life. For example -- in the newer chapters, Makoto gets rewarded for completing a task with two gold chips. She could have used the chips to redeem something from a "witch catalog" (literally like one of those holiday shopping catalogs where you order merchandise) and she got herself some cream you rub in your eyelids in order to see hidden creatures. It was a good chapter

It made me smile a lot and chuckle sometimes. Likable characters, nice visuals and the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere blended very well to make the show quite enjoyable overall.

My AOTY is still Amanchu though.
