Not quite a meme, fast movements look really crappy with high frame counts. You either have to use motion blur, which is aids and does indeed "break the feel of 2d", or to cap FPS.
The main reason "3d" doesn't look like "2d" (what the fuck is this terminology even, they are both shown on flat 2d screens) is the lack of small deviations from perfection. Legit, if you take >>150807572, force the algorithm to randomly displace shadows and vanishing points and apply a grain filter, no one will even guess it's not handdrawn.
