From personal experience, it's really hard to break from that inertia of being a good for nothing slacker.

Chitose knows that she's supposed to work hard, but it's such a huge break from how she usually lives her life. Even if she wanted to put in more effort, she wouldn't know where to start. If Chitose is so lacking in any will to put a modicum of effort in, then she's not cut out for this industry anyway. You need some level of passion to make a career out of acting, and if Chitose doesn't have that, it's better for her to get out now and stop wasting her time on a dead end.
