Personally I don't see what everybody has been complaining about lately.

This season has been a story about the mistreatment of athletes, overly brutal training and poor psychological care in sports. My analogy about Jill being like those mothers who make their daughters enter beauty pageants was only proven right this last episode. Hell I think Fuuka and Rinne are both excellent additions to the roster of characters.

And I still stand by my comparison of Rinne to Broly/Ivan Drago.

It's just that one guy who wants the series to be more than what it is. He's got a point except he chooses to be mad that everybody else has stopped being mad about it. My only issue at the moment is having The Fight end so predictably so it was anti-climatic. Also, having it be 90% slideshow and 30% QUALITY sucked too but of course BDs, etc.

I did like how Strike was willing to use brutality to make a point and how things like strength, talent and skill aren't so black and white.

The complaining is mainly due to the focus of the characters. If Rinne's only purpose was to lose and cheer Fuuka on, then most of her build-up and backstory could have been replaced with screen time for Fuuka, since she's the one that wins and is viewed as morally right in the end. It's almost like Miyata (from Ippo) getting most of the screen time and monologues, only to lose to every important fighter in the first arc. That's how jarring it feels to some people. It looks like there's not going to be any kind of rivalry anymore between Fuuka and Rinne, which is kind of a problem, in the long run, for a sports based series.

When Vivid Strike appeared and put Vivids into all the "side character" slots, together with weird changes in the heading (Nove getting dojo, Einhart getting some championship title), I had a theory that the authors/producers just want to kill Vivid and this is sort of bridge burning.

Break the VIvio-Einhart ship that was emblem of Vivid manga (every single cover, almost), give the characters some "story resolutions", then toss them away.

And because you don't want people to ask for their return and to fangirl about them instead of your new characters/franchise, it is idea to shit on them a bit with personality changes, breaking of the couples/ships, and giving them ugly art in the new series.
