I was reading Japanese reactions to the rings and something interesting but also heartbreaking came up.

First is why Yuuri picked up a ring of all things as a lucky charm. Like a lot of other things, apparently Japanese are very superstitious about rings and believe they can have magical power in them.

Second is how cute the way Yuuri asks Victor to put the ring on him was, because he's >implying it in that way only Japanese allows you to. "sono, omajinai wo..." = "Um, I put this on you, right? So, can you put this one on me, you know, to give me good luck?"

Third is Victor's reaction after Yuuri asks him that. They say that until that point, Victor might have thought Yuuri was seriously proposing because of how he reacted after hearing Yuuri say he (only) wanted Victor to put the ring on him for "good luck" and how he didn't respond right away. They speculate he was thinking something like "Good luck...? Oh, right, this is Yuuri... He's 100% focused in skating, he wouldn't be thinking about that. Maybe he doesn't even know what a ring on the right hand means in Russia". They say he switched to his coach mode when he replied and that his betrayed expectations are linked to what he says afterwards "I have faith in whatever you decide, Yuuri".

Lastly there's the phrase that Victor says as he puts the ring on. For some reason it was mistranslated in HS, he says "So you won't have to think about anything", as in, a wish or a spell upon the ring to assure Yuuri he doesn't have to think about anything while skating, something like that. Japanese fans are making jokes about how they wanted a spell like that for themselves because they can't do anything but think of it. Also, some are saying Victor was also saying that out loud to himself.

Fuck and I just saw a ppst by someone saying the rings aren't actually sold in pairs and it's true, in websites like Tiffany the price listed is for one ring.

In the counter, the rings sets stay the same, which means Yuuri ended up not purchasing one of the counter. Also the rings on display all have different prices, which means they are different weight and carat, not a set as a set gives you two rings of the same weight and carat.
