I've been thinking a lot about this show lately. Especially the part about the Space Defense Force, and whether we are right to allocate such a large portion of our resources to space exploration. Poor people don't want to go to space, they want peace and stability, and they want their jobs, and the ability to feed their children. The more we invest in speculative, luxurious projects like the space program, the more we threaten the delicate balance. Not to mention all the ways we're currently fucking up our own planet. Were they right to say that we should focus on Earth's problems, instead of worrying about Mars or Jupiter, and having nothing to show for it?

Space has the resources to keep them alive. Either we all choke to death on smog here on Earth, or asteroid miners and scientists push the lowest form of poverty up and up.

It'll be better for everyone when life saving medical tech is a total joke to just bring somewhere so that jungle people can still get de-cancered, and those machines won't invent themselves. It'll take an explosion of exploration and innovation to push humanity up the next rung on the ladder.

It's only a few billions of dollars that are being used for space exploration.
Most of our money is still being used for normal terrestrial infrastructure and social upkeep, environmental control, building new weapons to kill each another and medical advances.

It will be more interesting to see if we really really managed to crack the secret behind superlongevity and perhaps even agelessness. That advancement in science would then lead to a population increase, and then space exploration will become even more important because we will need space food and space resources to feed everyone on Earth.

You have to start somewhere and that somewhere isn't going to be a catch-all solution.

If you waste time waiting on a catch-all solution then you will just end up with more garbage to collect when it is finally ready.

It's one of the better, easier to implement, techniques that we can start using right away. Nothing to complain about.
