I'd mostly agree, but the last episode was a step down. They tried to cram too much into one episode.
Actually, I recently rewatched the first episode, and it wasn't as bad as I remember it. There's a few things that are legitimately bad, like the horrible CG doors, but most of the negative impressions I think come out of it being a big step down from Infected/Spread. Rewatching it makes you appreciate more just how unlikely the Selector series was: a bunch of very talented people (Sato, Okada, Pablo) all working on a card game anime. Lostorage is more where expectations should have been. It's Selector that's the outlier.

On raw amount of things that happened there was a lot, certainly, but it's also how you interpret things.
If what you saw was Piruluk's story, Hanna's story, Shouhei's story, Yukime's story, Chinatsu's story and Suzuko's story, then certainly it would seem like a ton of threads at once. How I see things, however, is that it's just Chinatsu's and Suzuko's story, which has been the entire point of this season, to follow dual protagonists. And through those two we get glimpses of the others.

Notice how Suzuko specifically asked to go with Hanna, because we really were following Suzuko's story and Hanna just had a very important role in it at that moment.
Same with Kiyoi, clearly she's doing something behind the scenes but we only get to see her when she intersects with Chinatsu (in fact, it's interesting how Kiyoi's role seems to mirror in function what Hanna does for Suzuko; kicking Chinatsu into gear at the start of the season and now in the last episode bringing her up to speed on the history behind Selector system, same as what Hanna did for Suzuko). The only time Kiyoi interacted with "Suzuko's side" of the story, it wass not with Suzu directly but with Hanna instead.
Yukime's whole deal obviously had a huge impact on Chinatsu, again, we wouldn't see it if Yukime was gonna just do that on her own.
Shouhei fits this the least as he was actually physically on his own but from the moment he got some drive (instead of moping around because he doesn't want to batoru) he was motivated by Chinatsu, firmly planting him under Chinatsu's story in my eyes.

Or maybe I'm just an armchair critic full of shit, grasping at straws to defend a show I like that /a/ seems to love to hate. That's fine, that's a valid interpretation too.

The reason behind why the Selector System is back is because certain someone had enough strong psychical ability to project their thoughts into another plane of reality and eventually died joining the whole last Selector System spiral of grief and sorrow. I think Suzuko and Chinatsu forgot something. These two had a common friend but somehow these two forget about her. Now she acts as the LRIG of the Beginning seeking revenge for abbandon her.

I'm lost. Weren't Tama and Iona the only "original" LRIG and all others had supposedly started out as human? Including Piruluk-tan.
But in this show all the new LRIGs act like they had never been human before and one of them even killed herself over it.

In a way, I'm glad that my thoughts about how Suzuko really had been strong the whole time and how Chinatsu only wanted to erase her memories because she was insecure are playing out straight. On the other hand, the small surprises are keeping me interested. Putting Rio and Shou against each other was totally off my radar, and though it didn't get much focus she really did get away as "the girl who cried wolf". Despite usually faking her tears, this time they were real, but with no actual consequence. I feel horrible for Shou-chan, but he shouldn't have gotten baited so hard by Satomi. Maybe this will be the last straw for Chinatsu, who had stopped getting contracts after Kagari died.

And wow, Kiyoi got shit on. This subverted expectations too. Everyone was thinking she'd come in and fuck Satomi and everyone up, but even she couldn't take the darkness in his heart. Her and Piruluk's reactions were much needed barometers of just how fucked up he is, especially compared to the ambivalence of seeing that Ruuko had no wish. Guess she won't be fixing anything this time.

Thank god Hanna was saved. Definitely a better outcome than losing. And speaking of, are they trying to make a point here? Mostly male Selectors have lost this time, and the only girl we saw who lost was a tomboy. They could be a bit more subtle.

The issue isn't about Suzu actually demonstrating competence as a selector but the convenience of finally engaging in the turmoil of the battles after everyone got damaged, in one way or another, because of them. She has remained passive for so long, not only when it comes to battles but as an actual developing character, that I often forget that she exists (outside of dyke fanart of course).

Super late reply, but whatever. Your defense makes sense in theory, but in practice it was grouped too closely time-wise, and it lessened the emotional impact of each event (also, how can one not groan at a google search for 'Wixoss darkness truth' being followed by basically https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW7Op86ox9g). It could have been arranged to work, but as it was the transitions were awkward, and several moments that could have been very powerful felt less so. Hanna's breakdown was completely over-the-top, and coming off the encounter with the truck, it felt forced. Like I said before, though, up to that episode it had been steadily improving, and holy shit if this episode didn't make up for the missteps in 9 and then some. The pacing was spot on, and focused on making sure each point hit as hard as possible, the ost was superb, and through it all the characters were allowed to interact naturally. This episode nailed everything I wanted out of Lostorage.

We'll probably never know because that's not the main focus of the show. It's all very contrived. The original series characters never had problems finding battles so the whole existence of someone like Satomi seems silly to begin with. Especially considering LRIGs can sense each other. It's also amazing how no one has tried to to stab/kill Satomi for the dickish shit he does. This show desperately needed a character like Aki who could actually act outside of the game instead of just playing along all the time.

All this. Extremely noteworthy in this series is the existence of a time limit. In Selector, there was no rush to find opponents, as you could look around on your own time; there was seldom a pressing rush to find opponents. In lostorage, however, there are fatal consequences to not finding someone to fight. So even if, in theory, finding opponents is not that hard, and Satomi's blacklist might only cover a small faction of the total number of selectors, the fatal consequences of not being able to find an opponent makes Satomi's 'contract' blackmail much harder to call bullshit on. And it's because of this that such a system is able to exist.
Also, in Selector, the ones most interested in the misery of losers had an omnipotent view of the battles. If you wanted to continue to watch the misery, you could have a front row seat as a LRIG (Ulith's plan, Piruluk's reality). In this, there's no cycle for the participants (that we know of yet), so win or lose you can't really live Ulith's dream of constantly watching people sink into despair. Hence, Satomi has to set up his own spectator system. All of this summarizes why a contract system exists in Lostorage when in Selector the closest we got was Iona's tournament.
