In the novel Reina meets (and presumably falls in love with) Taki in elementary school but in the anime, they bumped it up to middle school. The only missed drama is the Mizore/Nozomi arc. Other than that it's been very well executed and most of the time relatable, and when it isn't (for me), you can at least feel for the characters since they've had great characterization and development, so they feel human.
