Why LN? There's no need to limit yourself like this, it's leaving money on the table.

If you can just write the same shit you would if it was an LN, don't bother adding anime pics and call it a novel, you'll get much more pretentious peoples' money.
Just avoid the most obvious LN tropes and you're good to go.

Actually if you did that it would still be a LN. The "light" in light novel refers to the difficulty/complexity of the kanji. Pictures and/or contents have nothing more to do with it than appealing to the demographic.

So I just finished writing a novel, how do I make it light?
>>
>>150679681
A novel writer indeed sounds easier to make - but not so many people read nowadays. The market is pretty damn crowded, too. It's hard to 'get out there' with just writing. The internet exists, and this helped the market a lot - but it's fatiguing. I don't mean that reading 200 pages is fatiguing, but that novels get old; you lose interest.
>>
>>150680601
Print it in toilet paper. I hear it's lighter than the average paper.

My name is NanashixUzumaki444, I am making a novel that combines both the suspense of a generic shounen with the self-insert cash grab of isekai.

It will pander to all groups, have more girls you can count and of course I will never ever commit to any relationship pairings in order to increase discussion among my fandom.
>>
>>150680601
How long? Let's assume ~450 pages.

Make that 8 books that are approximately 150 pages of average density. Extend every little thing, every little action. Make weird comparisons. Stretch it all out and release a book about once a season. People will be all over it.
>>
>>150679681
How does this sound?
A thrilling adventure which speaks of the eternal conflict between good and evil inside us and how a person can always change in life when he has to defend the values in which he believes and fight for the loved ones.
This is a deep story, which takes place through a thousand years of history till our presents days. An incredible cast, more than 100 characters perfectly described one by one, a universe created entirely for this series, 2000 pages of script are waiting for bring you in this amazing world.
The chronology of the tale on which is based the whole project embraces almost a millennium, starting from 1123 A.D. till nowadays.

It develops in parallel in two different dimensions, Earth and Purgatory. As for the “butterfly effect”, what happens in one world can, in our case too, affect events in the other. And that is the theory and the philosophy underneath.

The tale is based on three main characters: Vincent McKane, Sir William McKane and Astaroth the demon.
Everything begins when, in 1123 A.D., Sir William McKane, a Scottish Templar knight, and his heroic crew fought against a bunch of witches trying to summon the most evil and powerful demon from the other side of the “mirror”: Astaroth.

The lord of evil forces is about to reach our world when William, showing great courage, sacrifices his mortal life in order to prevent this disaster. He jumps against Astaroth and they both fall into a dimensional hole. They end up in an other dimension, unknown to both of them; a world that is in between Earth, land of the livings, and Hell.

it's like Berserk will meet Ghost In The Shell under the direction of Go Nagai, with a dip in Death Note, a story worthy of the Dante's Divine Comedy, spectacular animations of Akira and the power of the super robot's coming from the 80', all mixed up and shaked with Devilman.

>Yuzu grabbed the book and threw it across the room, and then threw it on me

>Yuzu, my beautiful, yet at the same time, ugly, friend, grabbed a hardcover copy of Machiavelli's "The Prince" with a swift motion - that of an experienced hunter. Her eyes didn't even twitch, she didn't even take a breath. It all happened in a microsecond - she launched the book I've loved to read time and time again, like a catapult. The next moment, it was up, in the air, pages violently turning, and the book itself, was spinning beautifully, just like that sweet Russian ballerina with the exquisite golden braids from yesterday's news.
Ah... it's violent, yet at the same time, beautiful.
Just like Yuzu-cchi.
Like a skillful muay-thai master that has been practicing for years, and that hits people without a second thought; like a bathing tsundere whose bathroom door was opened by the boy she hates, the book hit me coldly in the face.
I could smell the smell of old books, even though that book hadn't been in my library for that long. Maybe the other books imbibed it.
At this moment, I saw the truth. It hit me! I had no right to be selfish - I had to conform to society. Why had Yuzu-chan picked such a roundabout way to tell me I'm wrong, I haven't got the slightest idea. But I'm thankful for it.

Yeah, I know. Seriously though, I just recently started making some anime videos analysis and whatnot for fun. Most of the ones on youtube are shit or boring and for all the times /a/ correctly bitches that anime youtubers are shit, I thought I might as well try using /a/'s standard. Whatever passes as insightful concerning anime on youtube is insanely shit.
>>
>>150681705
>I thought I might as well try using /a/'s standard
Not exactly a recipe for success there bud. You have to make the choice between being accessible and potentially successful or catering to a niche within a niche within a niche and be a literal who as a result. You can't have your cake and eat it too, especially when you're already rollerblading uphill by thinking any kind of youtube anything will ever be accepted by /a/ at large.

>Whatever passes as insightful concerning anime on youtube is insanely shit.
The reason for this is because the audience is insanely shit. You're barking up the wrong tree.
>>
>>150682181
>Not exactly a recipe for success there bud.
You're probably. I was recently reading a book by Scott Adams and he explained that when he started making his Dilbert comic, he wasn't being successful. The creator of Family circus apparently came to him and said that he liked his work but that he was simply ''trying to impress fellow newspaper comic authors, and not the mainstream audience''. And apparently, after hearing that, he tweaked his product a bit and it became successful.
I get the feeling that my videos would only be something /a/ would enjoy as it would meet the standards that /a/ would like. Informative, insightful, not wasting time, etc. And because of this, I'll probably remain forever a literally who.

>especially when you're already rollerblading uphill by thinking any kind of youtube anything will ever be accepted by /a/ at large.
Depends. From what I've noticed, a decent amount of people have good knowledge of the who's on youtube to a degree, but most have the general opinion that most are shit because they have nothing to offer. If you have something insightful to say, it will be liked. Though, /a/ hating youtubers because they're connected to the mainstream is another thing. Or, who knows, maybe /a/, or a few people since this is a niche as fuck medium, would like me until I get popular and then hate me like the plague like all things that get popular.
Not that I'll ever get popular.

Why do people keep acting like this completely unremarking piece of erotic literature is the worst thing ever? It's just a regular book that doesn't appeal to you. It's not written well, it's not exactly atrocious either. Is it just the only "bad" book you can name or something, along with Twilight?

I tried and am still trying to write erotic stories.

So far I've yet to finish two of them, one is about a shrine maiden who needs to satisfy the gods by having horses baptize her womb with hots semen.

Another is about a woman living lavishly on a lie as a renowned Lycan tamer, but has difficulty in barely holding her facade together. Reluctantly having him mount her in order to keep him well behaved.

It takes a lot of willpower to finish them.

That's why light novels are so popular in Japan. You take an interesting idea for a narrative and release it in brief chapters that are just enough to get the plot and characters across.

Sure you don't get as much room for eloquence, but if the idea is good then it doesn't matter. Readers don't have to spend as much time to decide if they like something or not, and if they do then it can be expanded upon.

I'm gonna right a light novel about a Stoic man in his late 20s to early 30s living in an alternate history world where feudal Japan never stopped being feudal. Stuck somewhere between meiji and bakufu.

His name will be 空港陽春. He fights using magical japanese samurai armor folded over 1000 times. (It also turns into a girl) He fights both evil if necessary and and kills hypocritical heros that kill "bad guys" For every time he kills he must pay a price by killing someone he cares about. Also a subplot about how he's trying to stop a psychopathic loli that goes around and kills everyone wherever she shows up.

Masterpiece 10/10, animated by SHAFT.

I am very sure you, the readers are wondering what provoked this outburst. As I mentioned earlier, I am a big fan of Machiavelli - and especially, "The Prince". That book had changed me as a person. Internally, I could justify any wrongdoing if I tell myself I'm doing it for a good cause. And fresh after reading the book and doing some thinking, I went straight to Yuzu-chan.
Ah, by the way, sorry if the -cchi mislead you, I'm a real, flesh-and-blood man. I've always been one hell of a daredevil - ever since kindergarten. I sneaked into the girls' room, kissed two of them that I fancied, and held their warm hands - warm like an anko manjuu that was recently done, and has been on the table for a couple of minutes. Not scalding hot, but a warmth that indicates that something is there, that it's alive. The teachers had a problem with this little sneaking habit of mine, but the girls LOVED it. The teachers often locked the doors to prevent me from going to the other room, but they're fucking dumb! Strict regulations forbade closing the windows, or any doors that could grant ventilation. In the summer, this was my lifesaver - with my tiny body, I could easily pass through the windows' opening. The teachers weren't watching us all that much, either; if they weren't reading a newspaper, they were socializing with their fellow teachers, or napped as well. It's a recipe for mayhem. My middle fucking name is mayhem. Fuck yeah! Banzai for me, the man!
Until this scuffle with Yuzu, I've never doubted myself for a second. I were always a guy with too much confidence, AND I could back that up. Going back to the Yuzu-chan thing, I went straight to her home early in the morning - right before she left for school. I rang her house's bell, and their parents asked who I was. "Yuzu's boyfriend!", I proudly answered. They got back into the house, and Yuzu came to me soon.
She was blushing. Ah, did I forget to tell you that it's winter? She was rubbing her knees

I wonder why no one has noticed a good "Japanese light novel" is heavier and as well written as ten average American fantasy novels

Wait, what? The Hobbot has 95k words and a volume of light novel amounts to half of that when translated.

and her arms were crossed, feeling her body. Two not-that-big breasts were slightly bulging through her lily-coloured pajamas that had cats all over it. Around the hips, it looked a bit too uncomfortable, as it looked pretty much stuck to the body.
"Come in, don't stand out there!", her parents beckoned me.
The house? It wasn't perfect. It wasn't like in those magazines that show off furniture, and this is what it made it so good. It wasn't some perfectly clean house that looked and smelled like OCD patients lived in there, it was most certainly, a home - a home that a healthy family lives in. There was perfume in the air, but the sweet smell of fried eggs and the fresh smell of the salad they had overpowered them. If I wasn't blessed with such a good nose, I wouldn't be able to relish the smell of the sweet breakfast they were eating. And I hadn't even reached the hall room yet - I was still in the corridor.
They invited me to eat - I refused! Her mother was especially pushy, though, so she wouldn't let me get out the house without a bite out of each and every one of her meals. I grabbed Yuzu's hand, and took her to the staircase to the second level of the house, slightly away from her parents, which were just beginning to dine. The parents' joyful voices were annoying me, and I was worried about being found out, as well, so I got even deeper - into the first room on the second floor.
It...was her parents'. There was a HUGE bed, with its' sheets still made, and I could feel some warmth when I sat on it, too. I motioned for Yuzu to be quiet, and tore her pajamas up. Her smell was irresistible. With one hand, I touched her hair. I tucked her hair behind her left ear, licked my lips, and put my knee between her legs - completely preventing her from moving away. I bumped my icy nose with her warm manjuu nose; and at that moment, I could feel her breath. I could smell the smell of a girl's mouth! My excellent nose totally ruined my mood

because I could smell a tooth's caries. But fuck that.
I whisper into her left ear that I'm going to make her pregnant, with my babies - for the sake of mankind! She yelled "dame! Get offa me ya wanker!", and unfortunately, I had to stop. Even a manly man like me knows his limits. I couldn't make a scene in front of her parents. I told her that we're going to talk about this more after school, in the book club.
It's now afternoon. She barged into the room, with the vigor of a SWAT team which had just broken down the door behind which Dzhokar Tsarnaev was standing. She made heavy, but light steps - like a lion. I couldn't possibly disobey the king of the jungle. Drawing him in a battle in which I held the upper hand? That would be just underestimating the lion. I am just an another ungulate which will be consumed by her. Good think it was a solitary lion, and not a pack of them. Ah...

"Are you fucking crazy? Who's going to buy me some new pijamas, huh? Why'd you have to tear them apart like that!?" I tried to calm her down, and explained my reasoning - it took a while, then >>150680970 happens. I told her that I understand, and that I'm sorry for barging in like that on her parents.

I am glad to say that ever since, we've made up - we went together on a totally-not-a-date in the mall, where we bought new pijamas (for both of us), and did a couple of other things - but I'm going to keep them secret. The only thing I can divulge is that in 3 seasons' time, I'm going to be a different man - a happier man. And mankind will benefit from that, too.

I am actually writing a book that will probaply become a trilogy. Each book can have around 350-400 pages so it's pretty possible convert the story in a light novel. I just need to destroy a lot of the MC's personality, turn the main girl into a tsundere, change the scenario from NY to Japan, put more cute girls in main roles(probably by deleting some male characters and replacing then with cute girls that will all fall in love with the MC), make more cliche scenes, learn how to draw and learn japanase. Looks like a pretty easy way to destroy a dream and become a japanase slave. I already have a story with a bunch of teenagers with powers and a lot of weight in their shoulders, how bad could be go all the way throught?

Most LN are just for future anime/manga adaptations and are 100% written in Hiragana. Hiragana is make a text childish because mature stories are exclusive of books written in Kanjis.

Every LN in baka-tsuki or amazonjp uses videogame logic (shit like Adventure Cards and Level-Up ) as plot tools. Compare to your typical LN author, usually ~30ish and some of the newer ones might have even got their start as early as middle/highschool considering how low the age requisite is for some of these LN contests (that have publication rewards mind you).
Combine their with the fact that most Japanese probably haven't been outside the Tokyo except for maybe the odd vacation or school trip and it isn't very surprising most of them just choose to pick the same kind of fantasy setting that's been done to death in the anime in videogames they see. It's also why you can sometimes see them choose to lift from existing real-world mythologies rather than creating everything from the grassroots.

Any resources for aspiring writers?

Not him, but you have a damn good voice - not what I'd expected from an /a/non. I sadly can't watch the whole video right now - so I can't really offer you any advice.

I just wanted to let you know that a romanian likes your voice, and that the long format you've got going on is amazing. Fuck people who can't handle videos longer than 20 minutes; you've probably got more delicious detail than any other guy out there.

Just don't start blogging, advertising, or generally, selling out. Keep this as a hobby; as something to do so you can wind down after a harsh day, and don't make it your job.

Yeah, that's the plan. I don't want to advertise, ''monetize'' or sell out. No ''patreon'' bullshit or forcing myself to make as much content to get people to like or watch my shit. I get why /a/ hates youtubers because I hate them just as well, so at least I know what

I was kinda working on one actually just to see if I could do it. It's about genies/djinn and incorporates a lot of what I've studied for my degree regarding Islamic and Taoist occultism/theurgy.

Still kinda working on the series Bible though as I do my research.

Because I'm basically typical fanfic tier and have a lot of trouble with proper detailing, sentence structure/wording, character and dialogue. I like writing but can't do it well, and I get a fuckload of blocks.

I just want to make short stories and shit. All I can ever write is up to a page and then I'm dead.

You're an idiot that's never actually read one then. It sounds simple but reading long prose entirely in hiragana is a recipe for a headache since the goddamn mess of a language can get very ambiguous without kanji.

Stuff written purely in hiragana typically inserts breaks for that reason.

But no, LNs aren't written in 100% hiragana.
