Well I had a more detailed post to reply to you with but 4chan insists that it's spam so I'll just say 5e is MUCH better than 4e. Casting spells is a standard action, but it was that way in 3.5. Proficiency is your catch all bonus to everything including skills and base attack. Overall it's more like 3.5 than 4e was, but still more streamlined.
