It is this action that makes the scene interesting, tense and memorable. In Neveland there is no action, it's just "let's sit here and infodumping". That's why, as the other anon said, the characterization is poor, because the characters don't express themselves through actions, but only through words.

I wasn't feeling the manga at first, but it's more interesting now. Emma has began acting smarter without losing her shounen hero-ness, Ray is more interesting and Norman is slowly unraveling. My only problem was that they took too long to introduce William Minerva; it would have been the perfect "keep reading" bait in chapter 5-6.

It's probably poor writing forcing her to be in the reader's position. So far she's a genius because the story says she is, not because she's been shown to be smarter than the average kid at the farm.

There's also the fact that knowing how to take tests and solve case studies doesn't mean you're good at putting all that knowledge to practical use. The writers could tell us that she's really good at scoring on tests but she's nearly useless elsewhere and I'd believe it.
