What makes a good anime /a/? And what makes a bad one?

If I like it, it's good. If I don't like it, it's bad.

There's a long drawn out answer about how a well written plot wouldn't have jarring and drastic changes in tone, and that every element flows naturally from one into the other. There's also something to be said about proper animation. Not using ridiculous rubber looking faces to 'portray speed and intensity'.

However a large portion of the community chooses to fucking ignore these points so there isn't an answer

Depends purely on how engaging it is, every episode should be compared to the first one to judge whether the show under-performed or jumped the shark.

If the OP song is has random Engrish/poor Japanese attempt on a foreign language, lots of shouting and saying the name of the show repeatedly. It's REALLY good if the OP animation has the characters dancing.
