The reason seems to be that Bakugou cares for Deku because All Might entrusted his power to him, so he takes it upon himself of having to deal with the fear that his hero's chosen legacy (who he perceives as trash) might get targeted, all while feeling jealous and inferior to him.

the fact that Deku will succeed him gave him more of a reason to stay alive in his fight against All for One. When he passed down the torch and pointed at the television live broadcast meant for Deku when he said "you're next", was a powerful moment.
Deku is uninteresting but I don't think it's because of his quirk, I just don't care for his personality. Only time where he shined was when he saved that kid from the villain with the muscle fibers by almost sacrificing his arm.

Maybe it's because I don't actually read many shonen manga but honestly the fact that he takes time to think about how he's fighting and isn't just some happy go lucky battle retard is refreshing. He's also had the most interesting interactions with the other characters like how he handled the villains in the USJ arc, winning the race without using his quirk at all, his talks with Endeavor and Todo, how he dealt with bakugou in the AM fight, the shouji battle plane, the bakugou rescue jump. Although he isn't the most interesting character, it's even mention in universe that he's a pretty plain guy, I feel that he brings out the best out of other characters and the situations they all find themselves in while being able to still show his own ability.

well a way to make overpowered characters interesting is challenging their morals.
Kenshin and All Might are fine examples of how to make a powerful character interesting.
Kenshin has his vow to never kill again but the innocent people he makes close relationships with are usually put in danger where he almost goes back to killer mode, this usually happens when Karou's life is in peril.
With All might his morals are always challenged by All for One, especially when he told All Might that Tomura Shigaraki is actually the grandson of the hero he idolized and had his power transferred from.
You need great antagonists like Shishio and All for One to bring out the qualities of an otherwise overpowered character. They don't even have to be antagonists but compromising situations.

Deku is just a student with the right attitude for now, but the moment he was left with a villain who was going to kill him and a child, brought forth a hero quality that left a good impression of his character. For now we just have to wait for him to face more interesting challenges since he isn't a full fledged hero yet.

Super Strength is a pretty bland power yes but it is also one of the most versatile. Although yes it can be boiled down to just hitting no two fights Deku has had are the same. I agree that with the fact that he's gaining better control of his powers there is less need to change things up and there is a risk that fighting could get stale the fact that his fighting style has completely changed gives me hope that Hori is going to continue to keep Deku's fights varied enough to stay interesting.

I want baku to win because he and deku are set up to #1 and #1a, but I just don't see how baku can keep up with OfA and deku's current growth. Hopefully this fight will show off his potential to keep up
