It depends on what they attribute the success to. If it's a broad stamp of approval on anime, we'll see a Cowboy BeepBoop movie, Gundam movie, or maybe something more modern like a Madoka or OPM. If they think it's the sci fi cyber punk aspect, look for Appleseed, Armitage III, Cyber City 808, or some other vintage masterpiece that'll be butchered. If it's just a hot chick + violence thing, they could go for a classic like Kite or Golgo 13 with a love interest insert. If they go modern it'll be KLK, AoT, or something like Samurai Champloo with an over sexualized Fuu character. If we're super lucky and they somehow manage not to butcher the next pick, maybe it'll be something like Patlabor, Full Metal Alchemist, or Trigun. If they did somehow go with one of the last three I mentioned here and then they end up butchering it, the next adaption will be me making a real life version of Fist of the North Star to be seen on the nightly news. Not anime, but if they did Tso-tso or Romance of the 12 Kingdoms in a style like Game of Thrones, I'd fucking OLEV to see that.

Anyone whom has watched the SAC series would know them by name.

I'd understand not remembering them having only watched Arise or the movie, because even in the original film the characters are hardly developed besides Batou, and Motoko, with only Ishikawa and Aramaki even really getting screen time, and Saito, Paz and Borma barely getting name dropped briefly.

But the Character arcs and functions of each character is really unique in SAC, that only people who watched it would even understand what the characters do.

ishikawa - cyber analyst/warfare
batou - generic special forces cool guy + full cyborg
aramaki - game within a game type strategist dude

Shirow actually mentioned this. He tries to have more dark skinned characters in his manga, but it is generally a BAD IDEA to have too many. Because paper is white, dark skin characters take more effort to skin-tone in a monochrome manga. Thus everyone appear to have white skin to save time, even though most are suppose to be Asians. Dark skinned characters are just too much effort when you are on a deadline.

This doesn't apply for Western comics because their pages are coloured, and you need to paint everyone regardless of what skin colour they have.

I doubt Bandai would sell their #1 IP for a subpar Hollywood movie right now. Gundam is only getting more and more popular in the west, but they wouldn't want to lose potential future fans by putting out some shitty movie. The climate in Hollywood right now is not ideal for a Gundam adaptation; it's anual copy/paste generic capeshit and Star Wars as far as the eye can see, but they still make boatloads of money. A Gundam film would flop right now. Not to mention the MUH DIVERSITY movement going on right now.

Gundam would either have to explode in the West or start to die down for Bandai to even think about it, whichever happens first. Additionally, capeshit would finally have to start dying and other anime adaptations would need to do really well at the box office. Even then, Bandai would probably do another one of their IPs first.
