Can Miyazaki be considered influential to anime?

>comes out of retirement for the 3rd time
bruh i think the only one he's influencing is himself
>>150329136
Yes but only with the storytelling
See the new Kei-itai film
Not really. The only of his work I see regularly referenced is Nausicaa. He pretty much lives in his own bubble. I even think he he had more influence on western works than Japanese ones.
There are ridiculously few doujins of his works too, except Nausicaa.

Because they're too pure. Except for Fio with her Electra complex.

He opened Japan up to the hands on Disney.

I don't think references or doujinshi are good qualifiers for influence.
Depends on how you measure influence.
If you're measuring it by whether or not his stories with their messages about innocence and life have spawned a series of "copy cats," the answer would be no considering the amount of otaku-pandering trash that airs these days. I think >>150330028 is right, you'll probably see more "Miyazaki-esque" stories in western animation than you will in japan.
