When the first few episodes aired, I thought it was a bad thing Yuri shot down Victor talking about himself. But in retrospect, maybe it wasn't so bad. The idolization aspect might still ring true, but it also kept things not all about Victor. Yuri wasn't hanging on Victor's every word and asking him to "perform." All Yuri has wanted, especially recently, is Victor just to be close and support. I don't think Victor has ever been that to someone before.

Man these past episodes have just been half-baked characterization (via exposition) of side characters nobody cares about while mediocre skating scenes just play on repeat. Hopefully the structure shifts it up a little because right now it has less depth than the average shounen sports anime.
