Are you sure you're not messing up numbers there? Episode 15 is where everything goes to shit, Subaru was faking most of his "mind broken" state in order to get sympathy and comfort, even Petelgeuse sees through him.

Also, it's a plot point that he is scared of death, he does not want to kill himself because he cannot ever get used to the pain, and he is not aware if his power is infinite, and nor does he know why he has it in the first place. He knows it's related to the witch, but that's it.

The plot points are being established. This is based off a LN, and many of then are set up in order to be explored at a later point, like Roswaal's wish to kill the dragon, the royal election, the witch and so on.

Plus, Subaru at first saw this world as a game/light novel deal, and was acting like a fucktard. The deaths traumatized him, but he still felt he was destined to be the main character in this thing until arc 3 where he gets a wake up call and dies multiple times in full despair and realizes he does not auto win just because he has return by death.

Also, the point is to also show, that despite being able to fix it, it doesn't mean he won't feel sad for Rem's sacrifice, and he figures out her disposition towards him.

I enjoyed the show but this will make or break it for some people. Subaru is his own biggest obstacle, and that's intentional, but that makes seem everything seem kind of pointless when it all really hinges on one guy's mental state. Ditto for people looking for time loop power fantasies.

Rem is actually the flawed one, if her actions in arc 2 weren't enough of a hint, while Emilia is more of the ideal. Both girls dig at two fetishes as well. Meido and purity respectively. You don't really get to see this explored in the anime though.

He also falls for Rem anyway. But something... happens. Novel only

All of this will introducing numerous sub-plot and main plot ties. Since the series is ongoing.

This. It sucks that they don't show often enough their various sides of personalities in the anime due to time constraints but they really butchered Subaru and Rem in that regard. They are supposed to mirror each other, both are equally fundamentally bad people trying to improve themselves and do good things. Only further emphasizing that they both need each other to grow and straighten one another.

You literally missed the message, that's what Re:Zero is trying to do with Emilia. Not Rem. Rem is just as flawed as Subaru. Emilia is supposed to represent the "silver-haired heroine" Subaru has been dreaming about and Rem is supposed to represent the opposite of that.
