Let's just think about it logically. Oda's editors won't let him kill off Sanji. Sanji is by far and away the most popular crewmember among female readers - they've always kept him at 3rd place in the popularity polls (up until the most recent one where Law suddenly jumped into second place, and even then Sanji was still 4th). Jump just isn't going to want to risk having Oda turn off so many longtime fans by removing such a popular character from the franchise.

If Oda is dead set on killing off a crew member, there are a lot of other less popular crew members like Robin, Brook, Ussop and Franky (fuck, Franky has never even managed to crack the top 10 in any of the popular polls since his introduction). Any one of those characters could be removed from the crew and wouldn't risk alienating anywhere near as many longtime readers who buy tankoubons and merchandise.

I just DON'T understand how Zoro is the token favorite straw hat. Luffy makes sense, but Zoro has SO LITTLE going on for him in terms of being interesting/unique once you get over "hold a katana in his mouth" he's edgy "badass" archetype to a T.

In all seriousness, this arc has been the best since Marineford.

It's excellent. It reminds me of Thriller Bark, but with a much cooler twisted Candy Land theme, and with a way better set of antagonists. I haven't been in these threads lately to avoid some spoilers, but I binged over 30 chapters last night and it was fun as fuck.

Yeah. Blackbeard is definitely not "cool" or "handsome" by Japanese standards. Hell, even by western standards he's not good looking. He's literally fat, hairy and has a bunch of missing teeth. In fact, when you think about it, he's probably one of the uglier characters in the series.

But I think for westerners we don't necessarily want to see good looking, handsome pirates. Pirates are supposed to be kind of ugly. It's part of the rejection towards civilization that they have and in a way is what makes them "cool."

But in Japan appearance is very important and ugly characters are almost never very popular, especially in a series with handsome, cute or beautiful.

Blackbeard probably doesn't have to worry about too much. He basically recruited Shiryuu and the rest, then gave them their own ships or fleets and let them go raise havoc and do whatever they want. They don't have to follow any kind of orders and have no responsibilities, and they get to be part of the strongest person in the world's crew. I think "pirate" within the universe of OP is used to describe any sailor that isn't state-sanctioned (either by the WG, the marines or any affiliated kingdom)

So you get a lot of pirate pirates, but also people like the SHs who are 'pirates' for the world but not really pirates as we the audience know them.

There's some weird loop holes though where we have seen Roger increasingly presented as a Luffy parallel 'good guy' person yet in the early manga's Buggy flashback we see their ship assault convoys to pillage treasure. Clearly, even if you are Oda, running a continous interconnected story for 20 years will create these cracks in consistency.

Planes would have a ton of problems as a pirate, since landing and takeoff require large, safe, dedicated strips of land.

This is why aircraft carriers are so useful for military purposes. So maybe if the marines or Yonko were capable of building aircraft carriers, they would see use.

It just doesnt feel like a plothole to me. In the setting planes wouldnt be very useful.
