Here is the thing.
What he's trying to save is a theoretical future that is for far away, it is like a sperm cell planning to put all its pocket money onto the bank at 1% interest per year so that if (provided the sperm is even flushed into a vagina, makes it to an ovum, doesn't get aborted and doesn't die before even becoming a human teenager) if that human becomes old enough to see anti-aging pills become affordable, he can live to the glorious age of 1 000 years (assuming he doesn't die of disease of accident in the meantime and there is no war that wipes out everything and Earth remains inhabitable and the bank doesn't default either) and then be a rich person.
Except it isn't, because the difference in the age of the current universe is so insignificant next to the time it will take before the heat death of the universe has any real effect on our ability to live in this universe, that taking it into account is very simply insane. Even IF whatever races exist right now make it to that point where it would matter, at that point they'd have changed so dramatically so often, that they'd be not just a different race, but something so goddamn alien to what they started out as, that if you and a mushroom entered a romantic relationship, it would be practically incest in comparison.

Don't forget though. They live in a universe with alien creatures and magic. There are time travellers, creation of realities, things that defy what we commonly know. For all we know their universe really is headed for a heat death and maybe soon.

He's an intelligent creature with no emotions, so he's only doing this JUST for the one purpose. I highly doubt he's lying and isn't actually trying to save the universe. An intelligent race that has helped humanities evolve and is driven to stop the death of the universe. Obviously the current universe is significant, otherwise they wouldn't go through these lengths. And remember, they have no emotions so they don't do anything out of spite, only to benefit their cause. Which is the most heroic goal in all of anime, saving the universe.

Sure, but they are also intensely autistic.
There are autistic geniuses around that can tell you whether a number with 20 digits is a prime at a glance.
These same kids will start screaming if you bring their toy collection just a little out of order.
QB are the same way. They are a highly advanced species. But when they realized that the universe is changing ever so slowly, they threw an autistic tantrum and went into a rage to "fix" things.

It would be cute if they weren't so destructive in their efforts.
