I used pretentious for the lack of a better word. I have no issues with fancy visuals, otherwise I wouldn't enjoy Madoka's witch scenes so much. And I'd have to give the first episode an other look to be more precise because it has already been a couple weeks. But I clearly remember that it made a rarely awful first impression and it must have been for good reasons. Watch the ED. You can see 9 marbles on the ground. The yellow (Gamotan) and red (Ryo-tas) marbles are in the light, which means "alive". The other marbles are in the dark, which means "dead".

What happened? Simple. After Kiryu attacked Gamotan, his consciousness Astral Projected outside his body. Then the guy that was following him picked his real body and left it in the pond to make it look like he died there. Then he or Ryo-tas took Gamotan's astral magnetic body to his home.

Not all died the same way =/= not everyone is dead. The hypothesis of devil taking Gamo life instead of he died drown is a solid one, I don't argue with that. But why would Kiryuu left Gamotan alive when he's clearly a black magic target? All of Aria targets died, it's a killing service.
And the most crucial thing is no one has offered a good hypothesis as to why and how Gamotan's body is still alive or can be resurrected.
