This, and on top of that he's a total badass. He's a clever guy who studies his enemies and environment and comes up with neat ways to slaughter as many of them as possible.

The only thing I'm afraid of is that Goblin Slayer will lose steam very quickly. It's a guy who kills a lot of goblins, that concept alone will carry you for one volume, maybe two, before it gets stale.

It's brutal and realistic. The manga's not afraid to depict gore and obscenities, things that are unavoidable in many scenarios which most manga don't do in favor of glorifying the hero for saving the day and everyone from any kind of harm. The MC isn't a gary stu that's overpowered and the best of the best. He's a highly trained executioner of all things goblin and nothing else. When / if faced against a different type of opponent, he'd probably be at a severe disadvantage and without some kind of contingency plan for the unexpected scenario, he'd most likely lose or die. Aside from enjoying watching him kill goblins, I'm also interested to know more about his backstory and how this all started, and if it's possible for him to change and regain some of his humanity again. As cliche as it sounds, perhaps the priestess holds the key to that.

It's about time less lazy plot writing came around. Forcing all these fantasy stories to take place in a game environment and the godlike stats and inventory manager is the height of laziness and plot holes and mary sue characters.

Sure, they do this because the game companies are also paying money to sponsor the creation of the anime. They expect to sell games based upon the anime, and using a game environment is necessary. But all this expectation causes the authors and prospective authors to write web novels in the hope it will become a game and anime.

This means that future expectation is what writes a lot of the plot skeleton and not the creativity of the author in creating a story from scratch. The author then writes the web novel and the future light novel with mary sue characters and forced plot situations. When the plot elements are dictated by what the author assumes will convince sponsors to take up his product and market it, that means the storytelling is compromised.

Although the "broken" MC trope is overdone, in anime it's often done extremely poorly to boot. It's honestly refreshing to see an MC who isn't shorter than all the girls, is practical in his tasks, and just gets straight to the point. He's calm and collected with a purpose.

The fact that his helmet is always covering his face is also a big plus for me so I don't have to look at another "hair covering his eyes" faggot.

Plus I've been starving for a good "dark" fantasy that isn't about a japanese teenager in a tracksuit getting teleported to an alternate (not)europe world
