The heroine is not shit, which is extremely important, and the battles are more fun.
Episode 4 in particular gave Hikari more characterisation than Yoshika's gotten in two seasons and a movie.

There's a vending machine where I work. When it was installed a year ago, it had all name brand chips, candy, and pastries. Recently, all the good stuff was replaced with off-brand generic stuff which doesn't taste as good, but they kept the same prices.

Face it, the franchise's charm is dead.
Strike Witches was quite unique, and that was what made the series interesting, if not pretty stupid looking.
Now it's just another series that has overstayed its welcome, and is just chugging along copy pasting everything from the original.

Why are you complaining about boredom then with only the first two episodes watched? Not that it changes much, the first four episodes are just meh and then it gradually builds up. The last two episodes have been good, but next episode is already the 8th.. You're special kind of silly for not just checking the archives then when you feel like catching up with info, or realizing things by yourself or waiting for next Wednesday.

I enjoy it.

Totally lost interest after the pillar climbing episode.

I never really got invested in the first cast and I'm okay with it. Hikari is a more compelling protagonist than Yoshika, the girls feel less paired off than before, and I don't really care about the lack of explicit fanservice. I think people have forgotten how slow the first season started too. But it's a shame that the OVAs were so good and this feels like back to the basics. The format feels like they're building up to a fun second cour with all these introductory episodes, but as far as I know we're not getting that.

The 502 is second most popular JFW, right after the 501. The anime just hasn't captured their charm. Their twitter story was better than this.

The characters just don't seem to be as fun and unique as the Strike Witches. And the show doesn't take any chances, there's nothing to get excited about, no hook, no moments that make me go "holy shit I gotta know what happens next week". It's just character introductions every episode.

Both shows did some things better than the other.

Well said. 502nd is a great cast but the writing, production and SL just failed to do it right completely. Nothing is like the ep6 of both seasons were, aka the best shit ever made that god blood pumping and tears flowing.

Hikari is a more compelling protagonist than Yoshika, but that's because they've spent much more screen time on Hikari so far than they had on Yoshika up to the similar point.

On the other hand, the rest of the 501st was much better developed and more interesting by episode 7, whereas in Brave Witches I can't even remember half of them because they've had absolutely no impact on the show whatsoever.

In an ensemble show designed around a group, it's bad to focus so exclusively on one character that you ignore the rest. But that's what Brave Witches has been doing ,which is why it's harder to give a shit about it.
