You know how Disney like hires a bunch of scientists and social professionals and shit to both theoretically and empirically prove that the characters they are making will be appealing and make them a lot of money from little girls and families? It's just like the mangaka of new game did this with nene, except for loser young adult males of my specific mindset.

It's a pretty good alchemy. They made her a more balanced character than most anime girls, and that makes her stand out even in an anime full of cute girls developing cute games.
She manages to be both a relatable and a fetishized character. She's small, childish, cute and genki like your typical legal loli character. But at the same time, you can identify with her due to her being a girl who likes anime and video games. What's also original with Nene is that you get to see the whole cast through her eyes, as an outsider in the company her friends works at. Normally you only get this perspective once, with the main character, here with Aoba. But having a secondary character who already knows MC meet all the characters the viewer is already familiar with, and basically displace the MC as the main focus of attention for a good third of the series feels fresh.

Also, I want to fuck her socks.

I think this actually describes it really well. Her voice is like a combination of Nonon and Sakurako, making it extremely goofy and cute, and she dresses like an elementary school girl, and looks like one most of time too. That's what I immediately liked about her and that's what grabbed my attention.

But then it was shown what a good friend she is, and it was extremely relatable how she is a college student who is disgusted by the workplace and the ridiculous hours that Aoba has to work. When I was looking at Aoba destroy herself and thinking, "Aoba that's not healthy," Nene usually always took the words right out of my mouth. Now I know that's not special and that a lot of people would say thing like that, but Nene was really the only character in the show that did. She is my self-insert, figuratively, and I also want to insert myself into her.
