That's the arc where Naruto turned into a Christ figure that has a 5 minute conversation with the villain and turns him good. It's also where the fights completely stopped being martial arts and turned into DBZ explosion fests and has the biggest asspull in the series bringing everyone back to life at the end.

Pain arc was when Naruto went to shit, and it only got worse with the war.

I'm rewatching the fights, they're pretty fun to watch. At least before it turns into magic duels in shippuden.

I can respect Naruto for having pretty much 0 fanservice as opposed to Bleach or One Piece or the abomination known as Fairy Tail which is only read for the fanservice.

My only problem with Naruto is how the battles became Bleach really, with people shooting beams. That's why I liked the battle of Shikamaru and Hidan because Shikamaru didn't overwhelm him with techniques, he just used strategies.

Naruto was pretty much nothing but angst, angst, angst. Characters looked boring and impractical, the story was trite and predictable, and Naruto himself is one of the worst shonen protagonists, and that's saying a lot. He carries Goku's idiocy without the likability and Ichigo's asspulled powers and (at times) seriousness and manages to fuse the two most unlikable traits of the characters in the absolute worst way possible.

That's not touching on many of the problems in the manga, but that's tl;dr material.

I didn't like how at the end fights basically became spectral-godzilla showdowns with no tactics that made the first part of the series interesting. I thought sage mode should have been Naruto's peak, maybe being able to control the nine-tails chakra but not to the extent that it made him a fucking glow stick.

Sasuke Rescue Arc was actually good though. Gave us interesting fights like Drunken Lee/Gaara vs Kimimaro, Neji vs Spiderman and Choji vs Fatass. Sasuke vs Naruto also didn't drag on too much and gave some good insight until their past.

I'd say Naruto coming back in Part 2 without any real skills under his belt already was a huge setback and then the Penis arc which did nothing but set up Sasuke's return was where it started to fall apart.

EXTREME over-reliance on dead people in the last like 200ish chapters. To the point where it overshadowed what the people who were actually still alive did, like the Hokage's being revived because Orochimaru did off screen bullshit and learned how to get past the seal.
