Dragon Ball is full of this, with almost every character being defeated by a new opponent, then powering up to defeat the new opponent. Super Buu beats Gotenks, SSJ3 Gotenks almost beats Super Buu, Ultimate Gohan almost beats Super Buu, Buutenks beats Ultimate Gohan, Buuhan beats Goku and Vegeta, then Vegito obliterates Buuhan.
