My point was that the plot is the only part of Eva you can find legitimate flaws in. For example the original plans/motivations and the revised plans for angels and instrumenatily are never fully explains or make sense when you think about it. Just google Yui's plan and Gendo's plan.

Besides some shitty dialogue about some retarded philosophy/psychology that happens every now and then, yes it is way up there.

The exposition is given out at a great pace that doesn't feel contrived. The characters go through arcs that make sense and interact with one another. Characters agendas or passions are clear to us but not to other characters.

Presentation and direction however are even better and put it over the top.

It's pretty clear that Gendo wanted to bring back his wife. With Yui we can speculate but the fact that it's not clear isn't bad writing. In fact the fact that the plot lead fans to create so many theories based on so few vague elements just proves how strong, interesting and expansive the story is.

I may be understanding you wrong but Yui's plan is not that crazy. This video explains Yui's plan (also Gendos plan somewhat) and character overall quite well without going off the deep end like a lot of Evagelion videos. It all makes sense when you think about it.

What I do agree is weak is that a lot of the time to explain Evangelions plot on a deeper level you have to go outside of the main two anime (NGE and EoE)

From what I remember yui would had to make some crazy assumptions for her plan to work out the way it did and a lot of blanks are not filled in both plans.
