I've been reading To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts and it does a lot to fill the Claymore-shaped hole in my heart. The setting, atmosphere and premise are similar, though technology is a little more advanced and the art is a little more fanservice-y because it's Maybe.

Still, it's two people travelling around between small villages and half-human half-monsters who used to be forces of good but went rogue.

I dont think you completely understand the intricacies of jobbing. Gohan from dragonball is a jobber. Zodd from berserk is a jobber. Darkseid from DC comics is a jobber. Isley is not. Hes only lost once because hes a secondary antagonist to priscilla.

Same with the Blind Hunters, they needed to show how much of a threat they were, so they had them kill a character that was already established to be pretty powerful.

Simply, the author was a hack and didn't know what to do with the story after the Battle for the North.
