>Chapter 134: Treasures of an Era
>Door-kun: Motobe Izou-sama
jesus christ, that anatomy is so fucked up
>Baki: Motobe-san.
>B: Please forgive me.
>B: "I want to protect you."
>B: That's what you told us.
>B: Confronted by that,
>B: We-
>B: I...
>Motobe: That's more than enough, Baki-san.
>M: You were not at all mistaken.
>M: "It's impossible for Motobe Izou to do that!"
>M: Is a solid conclusion to draw.
>>149927324
>bait.jpg
But on that note, it's understandable that people don't get the context that justifies the art.
>M: My bare hands against those monsters which are yours...
>M: Of course I'm expected to be at a disadvantage.
>M: All of you, who can fight ten battles and win ten times...
>M: "This middle-aged man Motobe will defend us...?"
>M: That's upsetting to hear.
>M: I reached over my own height.
>B: No.
>B: All of us...
>B: Misjudged the martial artist Motobe Izou.
>B: Because of that,
>B: We also misjudged the ability of Miyamoto Musashi.
>B: We were thoughtless.
>B: We failed to recognize you.
>M: Baki-san,
>M: The world's strongest boy.
>>149927324
Red line it, faggot.
>M: You are a treasure.
>M: You are a symbol of this era.
>M: The concept of strength...
>M: You have inherited its identity.
Somebody explain Baki to me. I watched the anime, got completely lost in the transition from season 1 to season 2, decided to jump to a random point in the manga and Yujiro was eating imagination noodles cooked by Baki.
whoops, last line of last page:
>M: The Ogre...
>M: "The world's strongest creature..."
>M: Has become a deity.
>M: That's the way of the world.
>M: Gods can't be reached.
>>149927506
Logic error not in your favor; lose $200
>M: Shibukawa Gouki-sensei's techniques...
>M: Are already considered a nature treasure.
>M: Cultural assets are protected.
>M: Orochi Doppo.
>M: He is the father of modern karate.
>M: If we were to lose the martial arts god Doppo...
>M: The way of karate would lose its sun.
>M: That cannot be allowed to happen.
>M: Hanayama Kaoru alone...
>M: Holds impossibly great pride.
>M: The transformed Orochi Katsumi...
>M: In the world of karate, he is a second sun.
>M: Pickle is what he is.
>M: It's needless to say that he is an asset of mankind. And a comrade.
>M: Gaia's eco-friendly combat techniques.
>M: The off-the-path way...
>M: That is yet unmistakably still karate, of Katou Kiyosumi.
>M: Shinogi Kureha's anatomy-based fighting methods.
>M: His younger brother Koushou's "Cutting Rapids". ("zangekiryuu", or "斬激流", there's no practical TL)
>M: The longevity of Kaku Kaiou, the incarnation of Chinese martial arts.
>M: XX's ○○
>M: □□'s △△
>M: All of you are treasures of this era.
>B: I agree.
>M: But...
>M: Each of you...
>M: ...Possesses a connection to the others.
>M: What of him?
>B: ...!!!
>Kureha: I was relieved to hear my name in there.
>M/B: Kureha-san!
>K: Musashi's appeared on TV.
>M/B: What!?
Character of the week: Mani Akio.
Original character, donut steel, etc.

He's declared war on Japan hasn't he
>>149927732
nah, he heard about Nanking and went to finish the job to vent his assmad
>>149927657
So motobe was protecting them by creating a bond wit musashi?
but musashi already created a bond with yujiro!
>>149927732
He has became an idol Musayan
>>149928816
I think his point was that Musashi isn't part of the present era.
>>149928990
Point is kinda bad if it includes Pickle though who is a million years older than Musashi.
Pickle is so much of an outcast that he has been living in the sewers.
>>149929057
Part of the present era's treasures, then. Pickle is a treasure of the present era because of his biological differences.
Motobe knows all of Musashi's tricks, so there's nothing "special" about him beyond his strength. I dunno. Maybe next chapter will make it clear[er].
Unrelated: I didn't mistranslate what Motobe said about Gaia. He doesn't say "environmental warfare", he really does say "eco-friendly combat techniques". Dunno if Itagaki had a stroke while writing the script or what.
bump
anyone else got a perspective on Motobe's intended message?

>>149931122
Maybe it's that because of the connection they have to each other, they will fight, but not kill. But since Musashi is from another era, he can without hesitation go into a fight to the death.
>>149931323
The "XX's ○○" and "□□'s △△" is Motobe listing off other names, and Baki starting to ignore him. Exact same thing happens whenever someone tries to explain something to Musashi. Motobe probably said something about how Jack never gives up. At least, I'd like to think so.jack btfo ;_;
Since Musashi only cares about fame and money, will he give up fighting now that he found out he can be on TV?

This is weird, i thought glorious nippon loved Hitler.
>>149934375
The muscle anatomy? No, I don't think so. Facial anatomy is kinda fucked in this chapter, but that's pretty clearly on purpose. Look at this absolutely horrific portrayal of Reagan. I honestly thought he was supposed to be a Japanese PM until I looked closer.
>>149934520
I doubt many foreigners have a positive view of Trump because the damn US media spends every second trying to crucify him.

Presumably, much like Baki, he's been training to become even stronger. As the guy in the other thread said, he's starting to look more like Yuuichiro.
>>149935086
Actually the anatomy on that is still off. The drawings are just detailed enough you don't pay attention to it.
>>149937564
What exactly are you looking for here? A published anatomic model? You're not likely to find something like that from *any* mangaka, so I guess none of them know perfect anatomy.

Fitting, would be a good way to make Oliva and Che come back too.
>>149938149
>stronger than oliva
>this is somehow a threat
>>149938241
Oliva's still top tier behind Yuujiro, Baki and Kaku, and that's without considering his off screen training. The only one who could hard counter him is Shibukawa and even then we don't know what he can do against a serious Oliva.
It's hard to assess how strong Oliva is now.
Mass produced soldiers stronger than him are a legit threat to anyone who isn't Baki, Yuujiro or Kaku.
>>149938590
Pickle and Musashi are also stronger than him. How could you forget them? And Kaku is an even harder counter to Oliva than Shibukawa, but I'm assuming you meant characters of the 'lower-than-top-tier'.
>>149937798
His anatomy is off. That's normal considering he rarely ever tries to do it properly.
Chapter 135 was done out of nowhere and was extremely retarded. Itagaki is a hack who masturbates to his own fantasies of JAPAN STRONK and takes relief in the fact that in his little mind, Japan stands above or equal to America. Fucking nips
>>149938817
>Pickle and Musashi are also stronger than him.
Old Oliva, sure, but how about present day Oliva.
Memetobe beat Musashi and he's technically way weaker than Oliva, you can't say anything about current Oliva, we don't know how strong he is, if he ever comes back we'll see if he's made some progress.

Don't lump me in with him, I like both Trump and Baki. I was actually expecting worse. As long as Itagaki doesn't have Yujiro go on a moralfag tirade about how Trump is an evil racist, we're good.
>>149939310
Memetobe also beat Jack who put up a better fight against Pickle than Retsu.
Its hard to gauge Bakis now because of how stupid the scale went. Memetobe beating Musashi who raped Retsu who molested katsumi who did better vs Pickle who beat fucked up Jack who totally rekt Shibukawa who beat Doppo who actually forced Yujiro to his knees who handily destroyed Kaku Kaioh who by Retsu's admission was a fucking untouchable god of martial arts.
Baki scale is non-existent.
>>149939070
Fuck off.
So, who would have any interest in Keisuke Itagaki's manga "Shaman"? Apparently it's been ongoing for a long time and has gone unscanned until now, but now it has been scanned. I have no fucking idea what it's about from rifling through it (perhaps it's about a shaman?), but it appears to have a high school setting, and features multiple people pissing themselves and a guy genuflecting and bowing before Santa Claus. Might find out more if I bothered to translate any of the text, which I won't do unless interest is apparent.

>>149939497
>As long as Itagaki doesn't have Yujiro go on a moralfag tirade about how Trump is an evil racist, we're good. That would be the truth though.
But I don't see Itagaki doing that, the only thing he may make Yuujiro say is that Trump is a weak, arrogant little man unfit to lead, he'll probably get the Bush treatment. Yuujiro likes those who are humble and fight for the weak, he just dislikes arrogant people.
Honestly, I thought he would go down much harder on Trump, Bush got turned into a lackey and Obama was basically sweating blood each time he had to talk to Yuujiro.
>>149939515
Yeah, more or less.
It all depends on the matchup, we don't even know if Pickle is even stronger than Oliva, Oliva can run through concrete walls and bend thick steel doors like paper, Pickle is extremely durable and wrestled dinosaurs and japanese sewer alligators, we still need to see him vandalize shit like Oliva did.
And again, if Memetobe's 25 years worth of offscreen training made him beat Musashi who knows how much will Oliva learn.
>>149939995I have yet to find someone to explain to me how "illegal immigrant" is a race. I'm a spic myself and apparently I'm supposed to be offended by him pointing out the fact that there are rapists among border trespassers. Figures.
>Yuujiro likes those who are humble and fight for the weak, he just dislikes arrogant people.
Well, I even half expected Itagaki to respect the fact that he fought the establishment with all the media against and won.
>>149939995
>Yuujiro likes those who are humble and fight for the weak
And yet seems to have no problem with Obama the civilian killer.
>>149940355
Fuck off with the /pol/ shit. This chapter is clearly meant to be impartial and just comedy; don't drag US politics into a martial arts manga.
>>149940355
>Muh drones
By that logic nearly every modern US president is a civilian killer, hell, most modern world leaders are.
And Trump isn't really any better since he actually said he would go against the terrorists families and bomb the shit out of them.
But this isn't /pol/ and you should all go back there.
>>149940457
This. As much as I'd like to parrot away about Hillary and Obama's crimes, even if I were to win the argument the thread would get raped. Let's just stop it altogether.
>>149939995
Well, Pickle can take a lot more punishment than Oliva, I think. Look at where Oliva stops versus where Pickle stops. He also knows some basic martial arts techniques.
Let's say Oliva has more muscular strength than Pickle - Pickle has more wild strength than Oliva. Oliva would never bite someone, you know? I think Pickle *must* win in an even fight against him, by at least a slight margin.
I don't know if I would retain full bowel control if I confronted Yuujiro either

Honestly, I don't think you'll find much on the series. I looked into it myself before posting about it, and all I found was a single ANN article from 2011 stating that Itagaki was starting the series. It's not even listed as one of his published works on Wikipedia. Somehow, virtually nobody knows about it.
Maybe he published it under a pseudonym originally? I don't know.
>>149945671
You can try making it's own thread and dump it as a storytime, it could end up just being you and another guy though
It's not easy getting people into a series on this board if it doesn't have momentum behind it and the first chapters aren't particular attention grabbers or just some cheap slice of life anyone can get into, especially with how fast threads can move at certain times
>>149946056

>>149929057
>>149928816
I guess the point is they are all part of a martial arts "community", they want to show they and their way is the strongest, and they all get even stronger through their (usually nonlethal) confrontations.
Musashi doesn't care about that and is outside the modern context of martial arts. He cares about fame and just kills his opponents.
One very important thing that seems overlooked in Baki Dou discussions is the point Musashi made that there were no fighters on the level of the top Baki characters in his era. One reason for this could be that it was simply too deadly. A defeat in real fight meant death. Musashi who was an anomaly who survived to reach his level likely cut many careers tragically short long before he could be challenged.
I'd say there's a bit of a contrast here between Yuujiro and Musashi. Yuujiro is no stranger to killing people, but ultimately he wants to have a good fight and he'd go out of his way to get one. He "created" Baki for this specific purpose and didn't kill him in their first fight to get a better one later. Musashi as he is presented would be perfectly happy to go around fighting and killing any and all opponents until he runs out of martial artists.(I'd also say it's a message that can only really work due to the insane quality of Bakiverse medicine)
Motobe's "protection" may be both through shedding light for the martial arts community on how this Musashi thing works, and trying to teach this message to Musashi.

>He cares about fame and just kills his opponents
He went easy on memetobe and didn't kill him so you're wrong and that fame thing is a ruse obviously.
Musashi brings back the high stakes and honor, everyone is treating this like a game, musashi is like early yujiro when he came and struck fear and death into people.
>>149947723
>He went easy on memetobe and didn't kill him
He was going to kill him, going easy on him was just misjudging his opponent and showing off.
>and that fame thing is a ruse obviously.
It seems true and consistent with his character.
We saw the "mountain of gold" thing from his perspective, so we know he wasn't just rusing Yuujiro about it.

>>149948908
Nhé , the old style is strange
So how is it possible for Trump not to know about Yujiro? Everyone in the Baki world must have watched the father and son fight by that point, unless they live in a third world shithole with no internet.
>>149952946
Trump literally, quite literally didn't know that Russia invaded Ukraine.
Him not knowing about Yuujiro isn't impossible in the least, dude's completely oblivious to anything that happens outside of his little bubble.
>>149952946
They didn't announce his identity. That was simply a super-incredible fight between some dude and his son.
On the other hand, Yuujiro being known as a walking WMD is probably taken as a metaphor by the people who hear about it, and a businessman doesn't really need that information, which is why he's being told now.

I didn't either. I'm willing to bet most people who aren't directly affected didn't, since only a few read the news. It's really not the same as "look this kickass fight between two superhuman guys" which would been everywhere in social media.

He can't be hurt by it. There's at least one line in the series about how Yuujiro is so powerful that he cannot be 'defeated' by age, disease, infection or any such. I recall that it's also implied to apply to the rest of the top fighters as well. Kaku is 148 years old, and he can start/stop his heart at will. It was implied earlier in the series that Yuujiro can do the same thing, too, with endorphins.
Itagaki added these points to the series presumably because people would often go off on shit like "lol yujiro can beat the us armed forces, but can he beat cancer"; so he removed the potential for that kind of argument in the Baki universe.
>>149970950
Because he says that you can't always have good things for your body. In order for it to grow you have to mix in a lot of bad as well.
>>149971502
See, that's where I don't understand Itagaki.
If Yujiro's all that, why would he consider Musashi a legitimate threat?
>>149971703
Yuujiro doesn't really consider Musashi a legitimate threat. In their fight, he KO'd him twice, and had a million opportunities to kill him. Go re-read the part where Musashi goes hands-mode against Yuujiro - Yuujiro just tries to dodge it; he makes absolutely no efforts to hit Musashi back. I think he just considers him the only good fight that he can get besides Baki.

Again, I wasn't justifying Trump, just explaining how the father and son fight would be way more known.
>>149974190
You have a point, but the bizarre way of thinking is... bizarre, in the beginning the selling point of baki is "grounded in reality fighters agains Yujiro how have a shounen power level", and Yujiro have limits, I miss this.

It's called Shaman, and was only scanned very recently. Wanna read it?
Too bad, you can't, because not enough people have expressed interest.
>>149980176
I wanna read it. Can you tell us more? When did he make it and is it still ongoing?
Also, I read somewhere that there's a full volume of Make Upper, is that scanned? I only read some stand alone chapter that came with a Baki volume.

I've reached a grand total of 2 people, now, interested in Shaman. Just according to plan.
Apparently, it started in 2011, but the first and second volumes were released in 2013. The third volume appears to have been released in late 2014, implying some sort of ludicrously slow release schedule. It's probably been finished or canceled as I cannot find anything about it beyond the third volume, but that's up in the air.
It's about a school teacher going around and doing stuff (such as talking out issues with students) in a shamanistic way, as far as I can tell. His body language reminds me of GTO in a strong way. Beyond that, a primary element of the series is about him bowing ludicrously excessively (dogeza-style). Most, if not all of it, focuses on school stuff, with an occasional bizarre twist of action. I think I translated the first five pages of it earlier in this thread. Scroll up to check, if you'd like.
On Make-Upper or whatever: I have absolutely no idea. I've only read that chapter as well. I haven't looked particularly hard for it, but perhaps I should. It was interesting, after all...

I found the raws for Make Upper. Will take like 20 minutes to DL; we'll see what I can do when I actually see them.
I'm going to put them on the Baki mega after I'm done DLing them regardless of whether or not I can do it, to spare you all the minor inconvenience of stupid-ass rapidgator/whatever site throttled downloads.

why is baki the size of a 8 years old?
Motobe is supposed to be of small-average height yet the proportions make him to be gigantic...
Its all the way in the back but still twice as big
Seriously look at the size of his head compare to Baki's which is supposed to be in the foreground
>>149980430
Search in torrents and you found 3 volumes of make upper (sorry, I lost the links).
>>149984438
He's a small guy
>>149984438
It's ukiyo-e perspective style and the old artistic notion of size relative to significance; it's been done before in this series countless times. Baki is not the important figure on the page, Motobe is; hence, Motobe is larger.
>>149981987

>>149996148
I doubt it. Kozue has a played a rather large role in Baki's life, but sometimes I like to think she's an editorial mandate .
Ed: Itagaki -san, the manga is a bit too much on the homo erotic side.
Itagaki : well what do you suggest?
>Kozue.jpg
>>149996148
I was slightly under that impression too. A part of me thought she ran off with Ali Jr since she didn't appear in Son of Ogre until the very end. But it looks like she just felt bad for him after Baki completely humiliated him.
