I think there wasn't really anything wrong with 3, 5 and 6 PIs but going back for a quasi-real world PI with a gimmick that many shows have used before just to push some kind of character point that could've been incorporated into the plot in a different way that took better advantage of the possibilities of the setting wasn't the best move.

Personally, the characters are okay and all but the best asset of this show is the setting possibilities. Ep8's preview is perfect in this sense. Ep7 threw that away for something that felt undercooked, personally. We are presented with this rift in Cocona's and Papika's drive yet we don't get to see them actually interact while in that no-sync mode or face any true difficulties due to that; only Cocona's mindfuck journey is shown and it feels like they used PI as an excuse to have this kind of episode, rather than the more organic gradual development of the setting that goes along with the character development.

I don't mind PIs like 6 and 7, but I just wish there was less narrative structure and more imagery to chew on. The abstract stuff is really fun to pick apart and looking for meaning is always a good time because what you come up with tends to be totally different than what was intended. Papika meets Cocona
They enter the snow PI
They come back with their shard
KKK attacks them
Both Cocona and Papika are kidnapped

Here's where things diverge:
First timeline- Cocona dies, Papika announces that she was another bust and escapes the KKK base. She then returns to the beginning of episode one and meets a new Cocona.
Second timeline- Cocona survives capture by the KKK and wakes up the next morning with her glasses intact. The story proceeds to episode 2.

The show began in timeline one, and shifted to timeline two due to events that have yet to be shown or revealed to the viewer. Cocona's restored glasses are a clue, but we don't yet have enough information to understand what the clue might mean.

Presumably they took the fragment, but Papika took it back. Think about it for a second: Cocona has it at the end of episode 1 and drops it when she's chloroformed. Papika has it from then on out. We're never shown a point where Papika obtains it. She obtained it offscreen in the time between episode 1 and 2, apparently in spite of the KKKbots attacking both of them at the end of episode 1.

In the first minutes of episode 1 we were shown Papika leaving behind an unconscious/dead girl and breaking out of a facility located in the mountains outside the city. Sayuri told Papika to "come back" and Buu-chan attempted to stop her, so it was assumed that she was escaping Flip Flap. In episode 2 we see Papika and Cocona heading to Flip Flap, but via an elevator somewhere in the town/city.

Jump 5 episodes and we see that Asclepius/KKK headquarters is also located in the mountains. This challenges the initial assumption that it was Flip Flap that Papika had left in episode 1. If she was actually fleeing the Asclepius HQ then why was she there in the first place? I have a hunch that Flip Flap and Asclepius are more connected than the show lets on. Consider Buu-chan's other name: TT-392. If any of the Asclepius robots or maybe the twins are shown to have names/labels with the same format, then it could be more evidence that FlipFlap and Asclepius are 2 sides of the same entity.

This detail might be a hint that Asclepius and FlipFlap have a more complicated relationship than just rival fragment collectors. Papika is in/escaping Asclepius HQ but is communicating with FlipFlap, while Bu-chan tries to keep her there. Either they were raiding the KKK, or Papika was invited to the site for experiments.

Perhaps Papika's break out pissed Asclepius off and they decided to cut ties with FlipFlap at that time. I might be way off so I suppose we'll just have to wait.
