Does this show have anything to say about the ecchi genre?
Ragyo did nothing wrong
Since the theme was that roles people take on end up controlling their lives and identities, perhaps that taking a strong stance for or against ecchi for the sake of being noticed is self-destructive. Just chill and enjoy ecchi - or don't.
>Does this show have anything to say
No
That it's pretty fuckin' neat?
mako is the real semen demon
i posted a 2000 word thingy in the TTGL about this series.
tl;dr writer knows nothing about storytelling and ruined everything

No. It threw around tits and ass because that's how you get the shonen audience.
It had excellent art direction that's for sure. It wasn't crazy progressive but it was different and unique in its sense. It was good. Could have been better but good.
>>149889677
There's nothing ecchi about it.
Best show

It has plenty to say about anime in general. I feel like normalizing the nudity instead of making it erotic certainly says something about the role fan service plays in anime? If nudity is paramount to the main plot is it just fan service or can it be more then just eye candy?

reminder that all the deaths in KLK were handled poorly.
killing the 'mentor' after the story resolution has played out for the sheer shock value of it is one of the worst things you can do to your story. making people feel like shit after sitting through 24 episodes is just insulting.
if there was ever a time to kill cloth mentor, it was when he got hacked into a thousand pieces. the ending was literal poochi shit from the simpsons

Literally this
Also, every fight against the elite four, and most fights in the show in general end with a deus ex machina, usually senkets realizes he has a never before seen ability to get them out of an impossible situation, 10/10 storytelling right there.
>>149891263
Senketsu wasn't a mentor though. He literally doesn't know anything and has to learn everything along with Ryuko.
Was going to post something to answer OP's question but I find this to be a better remark after seeing couple of these replies.
>KLK still makes /a/ this butthurt

I disagree. I feel like the series was trying to pay homage to much older series from the 70s and 80s so thats why it was more episode to episode and didn't really pay a whole lot of service to some over all deep story arc. Also what deaths? I really didn't find her clothing to be her mentor it was more of a partnership.
You guys are welcome to your opinions but I don't think the series was trying to meet modern standards it was just trying to tell a simple story with simple characters and it succeeded at that no question.
TL:DR: You all take kill la kill far too seriously. The damned thing is literally about ancient alien clothing for fuck's sake.

Apparently Imaishi was throwing out scripts and fucked Nakashima's original vision until we got the garbage that was the second half.
>>149891799
I would argue the death of a partner is far more of a death than a mentor.
And, honestly, I hate it. Senketsu is a character who isn't really human and doesn't really understand humans but he learns and comes to include himself in humanity, and it's at that moment that he dies. The exact same thing happens to Nia in TTGL and Nova in Space Patrol.
Neat

if the show doesn't want to be taken seriously, then we'll judge it on its artistic and stylistic merits which are also not great in the latter portions. we dont need a 2 cour homage.

for anyone interested in long reads

Also with regards to ancient alien clothing, the animation format lends itself entirely to things that can't be communicated otherwise with more traditional film-making techniques. Its no surprise why magic, sci-fi and fantasy are common themes in anime.

Are you trying to tell me trigger takes style over substance to a new level?
Nani?!?!
>>149891263
Senketsu isn't a mentor character, family, from the very moment Ryuko meets him she asks him what the hell is he and what's going on and he responds he doesn't know. She sympathized with him because he doesn't know anything and both of them are searching for the truth together. Its a mutual self-actualization.
Senketsu doesn't advise her, he works and fights with her and they cover each other's weaknesses. They're supposed to be equals where neither one is in charge. Nakashima described the original idea for life fiber synchronize as being like the two of them are always holding hands while they fight.
