Buy books, not like you'd read them to begin with, I recommend Gormenghast.

So how is this series marketed in Japan? I figured it's a loss opportunity they could put the characters on novels mentioned throughout the series, kind of like what happened when they tried to promote classic literature with Psycho-Pass characters being wrapped around the cover.

>>
>>149892667

I usually read like 80 pages a day, it's not that hard and try and spread it 80 pages in the morning and 80 in the evenings before bed.

>>149892592

It's a good series but keep in mind it was originally supposed to be longer but the author's mental health problems got in the way.
>>
>>149892716
>Mental health
Well that's interesting, what caught him?
>>
>>149892757

Dementia.

I think that's what makes the series more interesting since you can see where the effects of it are taking place and if the crumbling, decaying castle is really just a symbolism piece for his state of mind makes it even more intriguing.

>>
I didn't know this was a short, picked up.
>>
>>149892716
>but the author's mental health problems got in the way.
That seem to happen a lot with the artistic type. So do the novels have overarching plot between books or are they self-contained stories?
>>
>>149892667
If the book grabs me by the balls like how Brave New World, Bicentennial Man or one of those Asimov collected shorts did then I can blow through the whole thing in one sitting.

Otherwise, I'll spread it out and stop reading at the nearest self-imposed cliffhanger to continue the next day or some-when.
>>
>>149892716
I've been trying to complete at least one full chapter a day. I'm hoping that I will gradually begin to read more as time goes by. I'll keep the 80 pages method in mind.
>>
>>149893019
>>149893061

It reads more like prose fiction and the first novel is pretty standalone, it's all about Steerpike's rise to power but if you're interested after reading Titus Groan definitely check out the sequel set a couple years later. I haven't read the third or fourth books yet since I thought the second book ended on a pretty good note.
>>

Can someone post the screencap of when In Search of Lost Time was shown?
>>
>>149893267
Not them, but it's not unusual to lose interest in a book after starting it only to regain it some months later, and I'm pretty sure that it has nothing to do with mental impairment.

For certain books, it's not like I can only read one page per day, it's more like I read the first five chapters across a week and the rest (with some backtracking) half a year later.
>>
>>149893286
Sci-fi, fantasy, and historical. Though most of that are just stuff like Warhammer novels so I don't know if they really count.
>>149893304
Here.
>>
>>149893332
Eh,guess that works too.
What do I know.
I read 3-4 books at the same time so 1 a year seems trivial to me.
And I force myself to finish a book if I'm halfway trough.
>>
>>149893140
I'll definitely give it a go, thank you again.
>>
>>149893355
40k stuff like the Horus Heresy or the fantasy ones? Those looks like fun actually, and Ciaphas might be a much needed reprieve from all the GRIMDARK.

>>149893379
I mean, I can finish a book just fine, but having to force myself to finish one just feels like I'm denying myself from a better experience. For example, 1984 wouldn't be anywhere as enjoyable for me if I had to sit through it in one straight session.
>>
What would a date with Sawako, sci-fi girl or the Sherlock Holmes fan girl be like?
>>
>>149893267
I'm this anon >>149892947
Basically, what >>149893332 anon said. Usually I read 50-60 of pages the first day I bought a new book, put it in my room, forgot about it, then several weeks later remember, read some chapters then stopped, repeat above till done.

Lately I've been improving though. I can burn through another hundred if the book was nearing the end.
>>
>>149893480
Both, though I've read more 40k stuff than fantasy one. Ciaphas Cain novels are pretty fun, though most of the novels are kind of repetitive and follow the same formula just with different enemies.

>>149893679
John should have went with his buddies to some corner of the world, he would have fared better against the tide of "civilization" had he done that.

That scene where he starts going apeshit and whips his love to death was nuts though, it reads like a nightmare. He didn't deserve all that shit.

The entire last chapter was brutal, he just wanted to live alone peacefully but then the media swarm him into the breaking point. Atleast Watson got a happy ending out of the entire ordeal.
>>149893794
>Would the repetition still be felt if I only read, like, one novel of it?
It wouldn't, I only noticed the repetition after reading through most of the novels and thinking back on them as a whole.

There's not that many stories with the Tau as the main characters, most of them are short stories and the two novels they have are pretty bad. If you want Tau and is interested in Ciaphas Cain then maybe give For The Emperor and The Greater Good a go since the Tau are a major part of the story for both novels. No novels or stories for Farsight yet.
