His last film had to have that quasi fantastical element that a lot of anime films do where it doesn't feel needed or appropriate which really ends up seeming to degrade them and feels kind of incoherent with the rest of it and mars the storytelling. I'm not sure why they do that entirely. This is based on a highly respected manga though so there wont be any of that kind of trash in it rather straight up realism I should think.
