Yes it's great. A pretty standard story for a sports Anime but it's executed amazingly. Season 2 starts off pretty slow but besides from that it's really solid.

Yes, because it's not an anime that caters directly to gays or shippers. Gays and shippers flock to it, of course, but it really wasn't meant for them. It's a solid story with good characters and a mangaka that knows the game and loves it and it shows, that's what makes it truly enjoyable. It can stand on its own as what it is without resorting to fujobaiting or pandering.
