Honestly tho, I never got the premise for the love story in this anime, or that of for any of the myriad of overtly desirable imouto archtypes. Westermark effect notwithstanding, it seems only intuitive that these plots are so implausible.

Close-in-age opposite sex siblings would primarly be annoyed from each other's presence. Albeit possible, affection would be rare and virtually always platonic. Farther-aged siblings would interact less frequently and much more likely in a patronizing/dependent manner.

My best guess is this likely stems from only-childs who have a romanticized fantasy of what having siblings is like. That said, this show and its subplots were enjoyable. The romance aspect simply never suspended disbelief.
