The Masked World Tournament was made by Tiger's Den.

The three wrestlers shown as "strong people" original Tiger fought were Mr. Who?(actually The Great Zuma in disguise, probably the single strongest wrestler in the series with the only possible exception of Tiger The Great. Based
on Great Gama), Mr. Kamikaze and Star Apollon- he got on friendly terms with all of them

I pushed through the manga this week so I wouldn't get spoiled even more but the closer I got to the end the more I realized that there were big differences. There was no Yellow Devil or Tiger the Great, only a fake Tiger. All fights after that were with real persons such as Dick the Bruiser or Dory Funk Jr.

From a glance it seems that Nisei was a sequel to the original manga while W is a sequel to the first anime.
